Can Hyaluronic Acid Really Bind 1000 Times It's Weight In Water?!...

September 7, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

"Why's Hyaluronic Acid so magical? For starters, HA can bind up to 1000 times its weight in water! In other words, it functions as a humectant and holds water molecules onto the surface of your skin to keep it nice and hydrated." -Healthline.com

I'm kind of a natural science nerd in a way. I am fascinated with why and how something works, especially if it has to do with the skin and body!

So Let's jump in and let me try to breakdown how skin ages, the problem with the loss of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) and what YOU can do to help slow down this process forever!_

Here Comes My Science Nerd Talk!

Hold On and Hang in There! I Think You Will Understand Where I Am Going With This!...

What is Aging Skin?
Skin aging has two different biological processes. The first is intrinsic (natural) or innate aging. This process is going to happen to our bodies whether we like it or not and is unpreventable.

The intrinsic process affects all internal organs just the same as your great, big external organ which is the skin.

Intrinsic (internal) skin aging is influenced by hormonal changes that occur with age, such as the gradual decreased production of sex hormones (androgen) from the mid-twenties and diminishing estrogens and progesterone associated with menopause. This deficiency in estrogens and androgens results in collagen degradation, dryness, loss of elasticity, epidermal atrophy and wrinkling of the skin-(Dermato Endocrinology, US National Library of Medicine, July 2012).

The second is extrinsic aging. This process happens when you are exposed to external factors, such as ultraviolet (UV) rays or irradiation, environmental chemicals, etc. This is also known as the dreaded "photoaging" process.

What is "Photoaging"?
This is damage to the skin from the sun. It has many names such as photodamage, solar damage, or sun damage.

Which Brings Us to Why You Need Hyaluronic Acid or HA On Your Skin Everyday!...

"In the dermis, HA is responsible for regulating water balance and maintaining the cell structure by utilizing its high water retention and viscosity. These facts suggest that HA is an important substance that maintains a healthy skin. The structure of hyaluronan."- Biomedcentral, Jul 11, 2014

Ok So Wait, What About My Collagen?...

Hyaluronic Acid and collagen are interrelated and cross-linked together.

Loss of moisture (HA) in the skin means loss of collagen. Which also brings about dehydration, atrophy and loss of elasticity which characterizes aged skin.

"Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the skin, [and] it helps to bind water to collagen, trapping it in the skin so that skin can appear plumper, dewier, and more hydrated." Explains board-certified dermatologist Tsippora Shainhouse.

"Hyaluronic acid helps skin stretch, flex and reduces skin wrinkles and lines. Hyaluronic acid is also proven to help wounds heal faster and can reduce scarring." -Clevelandclinc.org May 4, 2022

"The marketing for collagen products claims they can improve skin elasticity, reduce visible wrinkles, and increase blood flow to the skin. "Collagen is what keeps our skin from sagging, giving us that plump, youthful look." cedars-sinai.org Jan 15, 2020

So as you can see, HA is a really BIG deal for your beautiful skin journey!

Botanical Hyaluronic Acid vs. Lab-Created Bioidentical Hyaluronic Acid...

Botanical Hyaluronic Acid is usually created by bio-fermentation in a lab rather than harvesting from rooster combs or originally cow eyeballs in the 1940's.

Generally in skincare, when you see hyaluronic acid, it means sodium hyaluronate that was LAB-created to be bioidentical (synthetic) to the botanical hyaluronic acid found in nature.

Bottom Line? Botanical HA YES! Lab-Created HA NO!

The Botanical Hyaluronic Acid that is used in our/your Dr. Lucy products, is the safest most natural and effective Hyaluronic Acid on the market today! Natural, safe, effective and toxic free now that's a win, win!!

To You and Your Beautiful Skin!
Rebecca

P.S. We would love to have you share your Bonjour French Friday with your friends and loved ones on the benefits of botanical hyaluronic acid! Sharing is caring! :) Merci!

How Can I Have Thick, Youthful Skin?

August 27, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

You can help repair your skin's barrier by simplifying your skin care regime, using natural products with a suitable pH, and using a moisturizer that contains humectants like botanical hyaluronic acid.

BUT That's Not All!

Read on to see how beautiful skin is truly an inside-outside job and not complicated at all!

What Causes Thin Skin?

Aging, sun exposure, genetics, certain medications and harsh chemical skin care products all play a role in thinning skin. These can also weaken the skin and blood vessels in the skin.

How Can I Strengthen My Skin Barrier Naturally?

Take an extra gentle approach, opting for the mildest products that still do the job. Forgo harsh scrubs, rough buffing tools, drying masks and use a natural alpha hydroxy exfoliant product instead.

Eat foods that are rich in vitamins A, C and E. These vitamins not only repair worn out tissues in the body, but also slow down the aging process. Foods rich in vitamin C help to increase collagen production, which aids in thickening the skin over time.

Foods that are rich in vitamin C include citrus fruits, oranges, kiwi fruit, broccoli, tomatoes and cauliflower.

Foods that are rich in vitamin E are olive oil, avocados, broccoli, pumpkin, papayas, mangoes and tomatoes.

Foods rich in vitamin A include oranges, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, spinach and carrots.

It's also been shown repeatedly that omega-3 fatty acids as in salmon, sardines, caviar, cod liver oil, flaxseed oil, etc. are chocked full of omega-3's. These types of foods are essential for increasing collagen production, and therefore, making our skin stronger and improving the barrier function of our skin.

Natural Skin Care Products Like Dr. Lucy's Will Aid in Thickening the Skin...

We have found skin – like yours – that has been treated with natural ingredients like in the Dr. Lucy natural skin care products, becomes stronger, thicker and more dynamic.

Many different chemicals are used in commercial cosmetics. Some of them, such as retinols and steroids, can cause serious problems. When they also include water-from unknown sources that may be highly polluted plus animal products that come from things we don’t want to think about. We do know that these products send our already aging skin into “overdrive”, this wreaks havoc on our hormones, soft tissues, etc., causes us to age faster!

To You and Your Beautiful Skin!
Rebecca

P.S. Remember, the Dr. Lucy products are designed to strengthen and thicken your skin...naturally!

P.P.S. We would love to have you share your Bonjour French Friday with friends, family or anyone you think might need a little natural skin care help and encouragement! Merci!

Should I Be Using a Natural Face Serum Going Into Fall? Yes and Here's Why!

August 22, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Fall is in the air! Autumn season can leave your skin feeling dull and dry, which means it’s likely to be more sensitive than normal. You may notice it is becoming visibly irritated due to redness, dry patches or blotchiness that crops up.

What Should I Do?

After cleansing with your crème cleanser and using your balancing toner, your gel serum is a must before your moisturizer!

Facial serums are formulated to provide delicate facial skin with targeted nutrition to meet specific skin care needs. They are concentrated and do not contain the occlusive ingredients you find in lotions and cremes. In fact, serums can both nourish and hydrate the skin and provide the highest concentration of active ingredients, much more than most other facial care products. They are fast-absorbing and designed to address specific issues you may be experiencing with your skin. Think of facial serums like vitamins for your skin!

As I have said, natural face serums can nourish and hydrate your skin to a whole new level of beautiful!

When Should I Start Using My Face Serum?

NOW actually, and for the rest of your life!

Your skin desperately needs the extra protection, and fast absorption that a natural gel serum can give you during the cooler months. With mega boosting nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to protect, heal, soothe, plump and calm your skin.

Think of a serum as the secret weapon for treating skin issues like dryness, dullness, fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skintone — and a moisturizer as the key to hydrating your skin.

For You and Your Beautiful Skin!
Rebecca

P.S. Please feel free to share your Bonjour French Friday with friends and loved ones! We love spreading around the Dr. Lucy fresh, natural French skin care way!

The Truth About Skin Care, Devices and Results!

August 12, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

As we age, skin regeneration slows drastically. What once was a 6-week cycle of skin cell regeneration can easily turn into 12 weeks and longer and that's with being consistent.

When it comes to skin care products and devices, it’s all about safety, consistency and keeping up a regular routine.

Most of the changes that take place in the skin when we are using skincare products and skin care devices are very subtle. That is why it's so important to track your progress with photos. This is a great way to see those improvements!

Once a week is a good timeframe. These photos are for your eyes only so don't worry about what they look like!

We live minute by minute with ourselves, looking in the mirror and not always seeing our beautiful face in a good way. So tracking by writing down or marking on the calendar our skin care accomplishments will give us hope and some satisfaction about our progress.

True Story...

When I was treating clients as a micro current technician, we would take a before and after photo to track the clients progress. You would be surprised how many clients would say that they aren't sure if they see that much of an improvement in their appearance after using and finishing the micro current sessions. That is until we took the after photo, then they were absolutely amazed with their results!

I remember one client that came in for micro current treatments because her husband let her know (a lot) that he was tired of looking at her "old face". Boy did I have to bite my tongue off when I heard this! Anyway, we did the before and after photos as usual, then she brought her split screen photo copy back to her husband to show him her results, needless to say HE was very happy. But you know what I was impressed with? This client told me she was happy with herself either way!

How long will it take to see changes in my skin?

This will vary with age, lifestyle, diet choices, skin care products and devices.

I obviously will recommend to you the Dr. Lucy products because they are fresh, natural, potent, safe for you and your skin, tested, tried and true!

I will also recommend to you a couple of "Boot Camp" skin care devices that I use and know work amazingly well. Plus they are safe for you to use. See devices at end of this article.

Some of those subtle changes you can track when using your skin care products and devices...

Many see small changes in fine lines first.

Skins texture and or flakiness is starting to improve.

Skin tone improvement.

Skin around the eyes look more lifted.

Irritation and inflammation is more calm.

Less puffiness under eyes.

Skin appears a bit brighter.

The jaw line might look a bit more defined.

Here are some "middle of the road" time line averages for your skin improvements...

Cleansers: Immediately to one month
I will always and forever recommend a crème cleanser like Dr. Lucy's Gentle Crème Cleanser. Right after cleansing your skin should feel soft and smooth; not dry, greasy, or tight. Keeping your skin balance and not stripped of important and essential skin oils is key to beautiful skin!

Toners: 1-2 weeks
For toners like Dr. Lucy's Balance and Refresh with added benefits like added hydration and nourishing nutrients.

Retinol: 4-6 weeks
I personally do not recommend pharmaceutical retinol's. In the long these retinol's actually "thin out" your skin. The goal is to thicken our skin through time, not to thin it out.

I prefer recommending the natural route like our Revitalizing Face Oil with natural retinoids.

Serums: 6-8 weeks
My preference is to use a gel serum like the Dr. Lucy 2-in-1 Hydrating Serum. Why? Gel has a lighter weight consistency with small molecules for deeper penetration. Gels also do not have added humectants like cream serums, which have a tendency to weigh down the thin tissue around the eye area. Just say YES to nutrient dense, lightweight gel serums!

No eye creams: 4-8 weeks
Same as the serum definition above. Creams just have too many humectants and not enough penetration.

Face moisturizers: 1-2 weeks
Consistently using a nutrient dense face moisturizer like Dr. Lucy's Ultra Moisturizer morning and evening is the key to seeing softer, plumper more hydrated skin quickly.

Hydrating masques:
Immediate results. Hydrating, nutrient dense masques with Atlantic sea kelp like Dr. Lucy's Luscious Rose Equalizer Hydrating Masque will deeply nourish your skin, leaving it soft, smooth, cleansed, hydrated, calm and balanced.

So what is the solution?

Make sure you are extremely consistent with your skin care products and devises then you will see results! Plus, you will also stave off many future issues.

To You and Your Beautiful Skin!
Rebecca

Do Your Collagen Supplements Really Work for Your Skin?

July 29, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Before we get started, I want to apologize for no Bonjour French Friday last week! I was at a meeting in Los Angeles, actually at the Hilton Hotel, LAX and for some reason I forgot to send it out! Could I have scheduled it on autopilot? YES! But did I? NO! I/we missed this step!

When did I realize this? Sitting in the meeting on Sunday morning! It hit me like a ton of bricks! (I hate it when it does that!). Anyway, meeting was great, flight was great (watched James Bond, Quantum of Solace). When I finally got home, my cozy Casper bed felt heavenly!

Let's talk about collagen supplements, some pros and cons, then you decide...

Even though research about the effectiveness of collagen supplements is still in its early stages, pills and powders that contain collagen have gained popularity in recent years.

Collagen supplements are often advertised as being able to do things like restore sagging skin and diminish wrinkles. Some research supports the idea that collagen supplements can be beneficial to your skin and overall health, but the research is very limited.

Collagen is an important part of our skin's makeup, it provides structural support and elasticity. After age 20, people begin slowly losing their body's collagen supply each year.

What happens when you consume collagen supplements?

You can't actually target specific areas of your body and these products may not be absorbed by your body in a way that will make a visible or notable difference in your skin.

Like most proteins, when collagen is heated, it loses all of its structure with the unwinding and separation of Atom proteins, etc. Then, when this denatured mass of tangled chains cools down, it soaks up all of the surrounding water like a sponge, forming gelatin, which you don't want... Had to get a little chemistry talk in.

Look at it this way...

Powder collagen should not gel, but food collagen (like bone broth, etc.) should gel.

In a nut shell? "Fuggedaboutit"!

Heat harms the potency and effectiveness of a variety of vitamins and other nutrients. Starting at about 120 °F and going all the way up to 240 °F, which is about 30 degrees hotter than boiling water! Anything above 240 °F? Denatured and pretty much down and out for the count!

Most collagen supplements and powders are not highly regulated.

Since the FDA categorizes supplements as a food, not a drug, they do not verify the claims made about these items.

Healthier alternatives? YES please!

The effects of collagen supplements continue to be researched and debated. Instead of buying these supplements, you can always help your body make more collagen naturally by ensuring your diet is packed with healthy foods.

Foods that contain gelatin, such as bone broth, provide collagen.

Gelatin is a protein substance derived from collagen after it’s cooked and is found in the connective tissues of animals. Thus, foods such as chicken skin, pork skin, beef, and fish are sources of collagen.

Major Collagen Food Players...
Proline: found in egg whites, dairy, cabbage, mushrooms, and asparagus
Glycine: found in pork skin, chicken skin, and gelatin, and a variety of other protein-rich foods
Vitamin C: for collagen synthesis. Found in citrus fruits and bell peppers
Zinc: found in beef, lamb, pork, shellfish, chickpeas, lentils, beans, milk, cheese, and various nuts and seeds
Copper: found in organ meats, cocoa powder, cashews, sesame seeds, and lentils

Bottom line?

Dr. Lucy will help you in taking care of your collagen and elastin on the outside. You take care of your collagen from the inside. :)

Is Summer Changing Your Skin and Not for the Better?

July 18, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

We all love a bit of summer fun in the sun. But what do you do when all of that summer fun starts taking its toll on your skin?

7 Questions and Answers to Help Your Summer Skin Look Calm and Dewy Fresh!

1. Can hot weather cause skin problems?
Heat rash — also known as prickly heat and miliaria — isn't just for babies. It affects adults, too, especially in hot, humid conditions. Heat rash occurs when sweat is trapped in the skin. Symptoms can range from small blisters to deep, inflamed lumps- Mayo Clinic

2. Fewer temperature fluctuations
If the air is lacking humidity, your skin can lack moisture, especially when you're sitting in air-conditioning all day. "Both strip the skin of much-needed moisture, causing a dehydration and importantly to note an impaired barrier function. For many people this can result in not only a really parched skin but also a sensitive one too." Emma Hobson, Education Manager for the International Dermal Institute.

3. Cooler showers and baths
“Benefits of a cold shower include strengthening the contractile fibers (fibers capable of or producing contraction :)) to improve firmness, closing pores which helps reduce the ingress of pollution in the skin at least temporarily, and strengthening the arterioles to improve the skin’s ability to respond to injury.” - Dr. Carl Thornfeldt, the founder of Epionce Skin Care

4. Anti-inflammatory UV light
Surprisingly, ultraviolet light (the type emitted by the sun) can have a positive effect on the skin, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. 10-20 minutes is a great start!

5. SPF should be worn daily, regardless of the weather
Try to find a natural, lightweight, gentle sunscreen with minimum SPF30 protection that has UVA and UVB protection.

6. Make sure your makeup is noncomedogenic
That's an elaborate word for a product formulated without pore-clogging ingredients.

7. To hydrate your skin, drinking water isn't enough
"You also need to focus on two main areas a) prevention of moisture loss form the skin by having a good barrier function combined with products that repair and protect the skins barrier, and b) to use hydrating products which contain humectants, which boost and bind moisture to the surface of the skin preventing dehydration. "Emma Hobson, Education Manager for the International Dermal Institute

So How Can Dr. Lucy Help With "Summer Skin" in a Positive Way?

Summer or winter for that matter, can cause our skin to become extremely unhappy with rashes, dehydration, uneven skin-tone, and the list goes on.

Nourish, Renew and Protect is our jam!...Sorry, I had to say that.:)

Dr. Lucy not only nourishes and protects, but renews by aiding in cellular regeneration and collagen stimulation, which are all keys to youthful, plump, happy skin!

Why Do You Desperately Need a Face and Eye Serum?

July 8, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Think of Your Face and Eye Serum as Your Main Course!...

Your skin care routine is like a four course meal and you 2-in-1 Hydrating Serum is kind of like your main course.

First your yummy appetizer is your Gentle Crème Cleanser.

Next, your refreshing, Balance and Refresh Toner prepares your skin for your main course.

Main Course!

This special gel serum helps you fill up on all those important, nutrient dense vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Delivering nutrients deep into the skin to help heal, calm, plump, brighten, rebuild and rejuvenate.

Don't Forget Your Calorie Free Dessert!

Your humectant loaded Ultra Moisturizer seals in all those dense nutrients to nourish, protect and help keep it hydrated all day from the outside elements!

Whether you are 35,000 feet in the air or at sea level, the Dr. Lucy Ultra Moisturizer will keep you dewy fresh all day and night!

Are Serums Really Better at Fighting Skin-Aging Than Just Using a Moisturizer?

A natural serum typically has the ability to do a nutritional "deep dive" into your skin's layers and more effectively than a moisturizer.

Why? The serum molecules are smaller and are able to penetrate the skin on a deeper level. Serums are best for healing tissue, boosting collagen, even out skin-tone, and aiding in cellular renewal and regeneration. Your face and eye serum like Dr. Lucy's Hydrating 2-in-1 Serum can be your magic wand for youthful skin in the years to come!

Dr. Joshua Zeichner Talks About Benefits of Using a Serum...

"Serums are skin care products that are designed to deliver high concentration of specific active ingredients to the skin. There are many different types of serums on the market that perform different jobs, ranging from hydration to skin brightening." Said Dr. Joshua Zeichner board-certified dermatologist and director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospitals department of dermatology.

Don't Forget to Lock it All In!

Using your Ultra Moisturizer after your 2-in-1 Hydrating Serum will help "lock-in" and seal all those powerful nutrient and antioxidant benefits.

What Should I Look for in a Face and Eye Serum?

Serums that are natural (a must) like Dr. Lucy's, should be cream colored, not clear or white and with a light gel texture. No "fragrance" or chemicals should be added...ever. Tons of bountiful botanicals, antioxidants and natural vitamins are a natural serums "must have"!

How Often Should I use a Face and Eye Serum?

Twice a day! Morning and Evening.

Face and Eye Serum Tips!

Use your fingertips to gently apply a pea amount of serum to your face, around your eye area and neck. Then lightly tap, pat, and smooth the serum out. Avoid tugging or rubbing the skin, let the product absorb on its own once you've smoothed it out. Remember less is actually more for proper penetration!

At What Age Will My Skin Start to Dry Out?

July 1, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

25! Believe it or not! After the age of 25 the skin metabolism slows down!

5 Reasons Your Skin Becomes Drier With Age...

1. It is caused primarily by physiological alterations to the function of the skin. In this case, the skin becomes gradually drier and less elastic over time.

2. Barrier function is weakened, contributing to a loss of moisture.

3. The metabolic system within each cell slows.

4. Genetic predisposition and ethnicity.

5. Hormonal changes like the onset of menopause and drop in estrogen will also have an impact on your skin.

What do Some Dermatologist's Say About Aging Dry, Crepey Skin...

“Sunscreen and moisturizer are the two most effective anti-aging products,” says Kejal Shah, MD, dermatologist at Cooper Clinic Dermatology in Dallas. “Exposure to UV light speeds up the natural aging process of your skin, causing wrinkles and rough, blotchy uneven pigmentation.”

Is There Really Hope For Dry, Crepey Skin? YES!!

"Waldorf, MD, director of laser and cosmetic dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital, recommends products with glycerin or hyaluronic acid to prevent or improve the appearance of crepey skin. These ingredients pull in and hold moisture so your skin stays hydrated and looks plump."

"Good nutrition and adequate fluids are also helpful. Dehydration increases the risk of skin injury. Sometimes minor nutritional deficiencies can cause rashes, skin lesions, and other skin changes, even if you have no other symptoms. Plus keep skin moist with lotions and other moisturizers. Do not use soaps that are heavily perfumed." -MedlinePlus

Can Air Pollution Damage My Skin?!

June 24, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Scientists have discovered chronic daily exposure to pollution has a dramatic affect on your skin's appearance and health by breaking down the collagen and elastin. This in turn causes sagging, wrinkles and other skin conditions.

What does pollution actually do to my skin?

ALL forms of pollution throw the skin’s microbiome out of balance by significantly disrupting its barrier, breaking it down and causing free-radical damage.

“Pollution creates the free radicals in skin that prematurely chew up collagen and elastin,” says Rebecca Kazin, MD, an associate director at the Washington Institute of Dermatological Laser Surgery in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

The five types of air pollution that pose the biggest risk to your skin’s appearance include:

1.Automobile and truck exhaust

2.Cigarette smoke

3.Manufacturing by-products (such as phthalates from plastics)

4.Small particulate matter (including many volatile organic compounds in the form of aerosols)

5.Smog (especially the ground-level ozone it generates)

Here is a list of problems pollution can actually cause to the skin!

1.Brown spots

2.Uneven, dull skin tone

3.Breakdown of skin’s supportive elements (wrinkles)

4.Enlarged pores

5.Sensitive, redness-prone skin

6.Uncomfortably dry, itchy skin

How can I prevent pollution from damaging my skin?!

Eat fresh, organic foods and oils on the inside.
Fresh, natural skin care products like Dr. Lucy's on the outside to nourish, protect and seal your skin from the small particles of pollution.

Picture-Perfect Skin for Your Wedding Day or Everyday!

June 17, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

As commonly seen in the skin care world, there are many great ways to improve your skin for your wedding day or everyday! Follow along to see the 12 easy steps in achieve beautiful skin everyday.

1. EAT WELL and TAKE YOUR SUPPLEMENTS! The skin needs basic vitamins and nutrients to stay healthy and achieve a youthful glow.

2. MAMA SAID TO EAT YOUR GREENS! Vegetables like dark greens will help to oxygenate your skin, encourage lymphatic drainage, and keep you de-puffed and glowing from within!

3. USE A DRY BRUSH? Dry brushing is my favorite method of body exfoliation because it is multitasking – it's an amazing cellulite treatment as well and increases elasticity. Start at the tops of the feet and brush upwards towards the heart. Spend extra time on areas that tend to be more stagnant, like the inner thigh, and don't forget to include the backs of the arms and your back.

4. SLEEP!!!!! Be like Sleeping Beauty and get your eight hours! Proper sleep is the best known beauty secret in the world!

5. DR. LUCY MASQUE... Applying a hydrating masque like Dr. Lucy's Luscious Rose Equalizer Hydrating Masque twice a week is the perfect treatment combination for beautiful, fresh, glowing, youthful skin!

6. NO ALCOHOL (FOR THE BIG DAY)! Step away from the alcohol. Don't drink alcohol the week of the wedding. Most brides are stressed—and having relatives arrive daily certainly doesn't help. Drinking will make you puffy and look tired, so try and skip it!

7. YOGURT ON PIMPLES. If you get a pimple the week of your wedding, put a dab of yogurt on it, it's a quick fix. The lactic acid, along with the probiotics, will calm it down and heal it fast!

8. BYE BYE DARK CIRCLES! Dark circles are better addressed by giving up coffee than by applying just a topical eye cream. The Dr. Lucy 2-in-1 Hydrating Face and Eye Serum contains mega benefits from green and white tea, with their anti-inflammatory properties and powerful antioxidants. Also with botanical hyaluronic acid and Willow Bark extract to calm, plump and refreshed skin.

9. YES TO OMEGA-3's! You should also look for foods that contain omega-3 fatty acid to improve and balance hydration, subdue breakouts and minimize signs of aging.

10. DEPUFF YOUR EYES! I also suggest cold compresses in the morning or chamomile tea bags on the eye lids to calm puffiness and dark circles.

11. ONE GREEN JUICE A DAY. A green juice a day definitely helps to keep your skin clean and glowing. Plus, it will help hydrate you from the inside out.

12. KEEP IT NATURAL! Products like Dr. Lucy's that are potent and fresh have amazing results on the skin...naturally!

To You and Your Beautiful Skin!

What Exactly is Botox and Should I Use It?

June 10, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

There are Some Natural Alternatives to Botox.

I want to bring awareness regarding the safety of Botox and let you be the judge whether or not it is right for you!

As we all know Botox has become a very popular, quick and easy chemical procedure to treat lines and wrinkles.

Let's Do Some Botox Q&A!

I think this will be the best way to get a good overview of the pro's and con's of Botox.

Is Botox a Good Idea?

I wish I had a quarter for every time I was asked this. First and foremost my disclaimer will always be, "You Do You!" If you love Botox wonderful! If you are on the fence, then here are some Q&A's and just a little more "food for thought" before you take that next step.

Just remember, there are sooo many different kinds of modalities, injectables, and topicals on the market today that can give you the results you are looking for, Botox is just one of them. The question is, are all these "scientific options" really good for you and your skin? So hang on, here we go!

Did You Know Botox is Actually a Trade Name for Botulism?

In a nutshell, Botulism (Botulinum toxins) blocks the signals to the nerves that instruct your muscles to contract.

What Does that Mean to You and Your Health?

Botulism can cause many symptoms, the best being relaxed lines and wrinkles, the worse being paralysis, which can sometimes be fatal.

Ok, Then Why Would Anyone Inject this Toxin Into Their Body Knowing the Dangers?

Simple answer: To paralyze a muscle so that it can not move, if it can not move, it can not wrinkle. It basically "freezes" a muscle, relaxing it so that it stops wrinkling.

Is Botox a Permanent Procedure?

It is a temporary procedure for as long as the toxin is active which is right around 3-4 months (timeline can vary per person).

Why Do My Wrinkles Look Worse After the Botox has Worn Off?!

"After receiving Botox, a patient may unconsciously attempt to re-create the facial expressions in the area where treatment has paralyzed their facial muscles. What can happen is that other, nearby muscles compensate--this can have the effect of actually creating new wrinkles." -said Dr. David S. Becker, Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical College and Assistant Attending Physician of Dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical Center at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Is Botox Really Safe as a Wrinkle Treatment?

Several clinical studies have assessed the safety of Botox when used cosmetically. Here are some of the side effects after receiving Botox injections from Medline Plus.

Droopy eyelids (in up to 3% of people).
Muscle weakness (in up to 2% of people).
Heartburn or indigestion (in up to 1% of people).
Facial pain (in up to 2% of people).
Tooth problems (in up to 1% of people).
Nausea (in up to 3% of people).

Other side effects of Botox may include:
Flu/respiratory symptoms
Headache
Redness/pain/swelling at the injection site.
Bleeding
Numbness
Paralysis

A Canadian study Showed Botox May Affect Muscles Not Treated by Botox.

Researchers from the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta injected Botox for approximately 6 months into the limbs of rabbits (I know, rabbits) and found they lost 1/2 of their muscle mass!
What was more concerning during this study is, they found the rabbits lost muscle mass in muscles far away from the injection site!

Cosmetic Alternatives to Botox?

Just to name a few...

Microcurrent is a positive wave that the body recognizes as beneficial to the body - this wave lifts, balances and evens out the facial muscles, bring them back into symmetry. It also tightens, firms, tones, smooths muscles and connective tissues. Plus, increases cellular activity, reduces wrinkles and fine lines, boost collagen and elastane.

Acupuncture - Greater elasticity, brightens, improvement of fine lines and wrinkles, glowing skin.

LED - Non-invasive light therapy that interacts with the skin's cells to stimulate and increase collage. Also aids in reducing fine lines and wrinkles, fades scares, diminishes age spots and overall giving a more even skin tone.

Rose Hip Seed Oil or Liquid Gold as We Like to Call it is

better than Botox! (in our opinion)...

With skin rejuvenating properties like vitamin C and lycopene, rosehip seed oil is a safer solution to repair the skin’s surface, restore elasticity and protects against sun and pollution stressors that can lead to wrinkles.

Rose Hip Seed Oil gets it revitalizing properties from the Vitamin A, C, lycopene, tocopherols and carotenoids.

“Antioxidants help prevent and undo damage to collagen in the skin. Lycopene specifically helps prevent skin discoloration, texture changes, and fine lines and wrinkles,” says dermatologist Tsippora Shainhouse of Stay Skin Safe. May 15, 2019

More Benefits of Rose Hip Seed Oil!

Reduces wrinkles and firms the skin!
Rosehip oil is rich in vitamin A (street name: retinol), which can help reduce signs of skin aging, including smoothing fine lines and thickening the dermis (deeper skin layers), making the skin feel firmer and tighter, says board-certified plastic surgeon Anthony Youn, MD, anti-aging expert and author of The Age Fix.

But That's Not All!

Rose Hip Seed Oil Protects the Skin from Free Radical Damage...

The antioxidants that rosehip oil contains, such as tocopherols and carotenoids, help to protect the skin from oxidative stress, according to a 2018 review published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences. They ban together to neutralize free radicals (a type of molecule that damages your cells) by donating an electron to each of them, says Dr. Youn, ultimately canceling out their skin-damaging agenda.

Rose Hip Seed Oil and Sun Damaged Skin...

One reason why skin wrinkles and marks appear is because of over-exposure to the sun – it is one of the top 10 causes of premature aging of your face. The sun’s UV rays may also cause spots on the face that result in wrinkles or discoloration. The antioxidants in Rosehip Seed Oil seem to repair these damages while the essential fatty acid content improves skin tone, pigmentation and texture.

Plus, rosehip oil is particularly high in beta-carotene—an antioxidant from the carotenoid family that promotes normal growth and renewal of skin cells, says Debra Jaliman, MD, New York-based board-certified dermatologist and author of Skin Rules.

Today the Spotlight is on the Benefits of

Rouge Revitalizing Face Oil!

Rouge is a revitalizing face oil with Rose Hip Seed Oil. Rouge is target specific for all skin types with naturally occurring retinol for skin changing benefits.

Aids in brightening, evens skin tone, boost collagen formation. It also encourages new skin cell turnover.

Rich in vitamins A (natural retinol) and C, which are both necessary for the production of collagen, cell regeneration and boosting overall skin radiance.

Remember, collagen is the building block of skin, it’s essential for skin elasticity and firmness. Our body naturally makes less collagen as we age so we need all the help we can get inside and outside the bodies.

Do You Have Mites in Your Eyelash Extensions?!!

June 3, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

You might want to double check...

I know this is a repost, but I have been hearing and running into this lash/eye problem ALOT lately!

Food For Thought!...

_WARNING!_ This important information might make your stomach feel a bit uneasy, but I think you will learn a lot from it, I know I sure did!

Ok, so as I am sitting here typing, I'm itching all over!

I'm going to dive into this hot topic on mites in your eyes, eyelash extensions, plus other symptoms that can cause eye problems.

This is not a very pretty topic I know!

I have said this a million and one times, and it's not the last time I will be saying it. I believe always and forever, "you do you!"

I just happened to mentioned this topic to my Ophthalmologist the last time I saw him and I was so surprised at his response!

I told him I keep seeing women with goopy, red eyes and eyelash extensions. He told me how women are just not cleansing there lash extensions or eye area very well if at all, so they become the perfect breeding ground for Mites! Of course, you know me, I started investigating this popular fun fade myself.

Something to Think About...

Lash or eyelash mites (also known as Demodex folliculitis) are microscopic parasites found in the follicles on our faces. They eat the dead skin cells and oils on our eyelids. Eyelash extensions do not cause lash mites. Poor hygiene is the number one cause of lash mites.

What are the symptoms of an eyelash mite infestation?

Itching

Burning eyes

Redness

Crusty red edges and swelling around the eyelids

A scratchy feeling in the eyes

Blurry vision

Watering of the eyes

Discomfort or irritation

Here is an article by Dr. Melissa Ah-Seng, Optometrist discusses how eyelash extensions can be harmful to your eyes.

While eyelash extensions are an attractive option to achieve more luscious lashes, there are some less glamorous risks to consider. Eyelash extensions may be pretty, but they also need to be used with care to prevent damage to your eyes.

Longer lashes have a fan effect which increases the amount of air flow to the ocular surface with every blink. This causes your eyes to dry out faster, leading to irritation and possible damage to the ocular surface. A lot of users are under the impression that you don’t need to clean your extensions. We are here to tell you that is FALSE! Eyelash extensions trap debris and bacteria close to your lash line. This causes an inflammatory reaction of the lid margin also known as blepharitis.

Blepharitis Symptoms Include:

Itchy eyelids

Gritty sensation of the eyes

Burning

Redness

Sensitivity to light

Sticky eyes and possible blurred vision.

If left untreated this can increase your risk of developing styes, infections and dry eyes. Clean your lashes with a proper eyelid and eyelash cleanser on a regular basis to prevent bacterial overgrowth.*

Just a side note...

Mites love dirty pillow cases, so don't forget to change your pillow cases every day or at least every other day.

Ok, we got through all this intense information unscathed, yet armed with more knowledge to make an informed decision on this topic!

P.S.

This is when I let you know the Dr. Lucy Gentle Crème Cleanser will gently yet thoroughly cleanse away, dirt, grim and debris. Yet all the while protecting your skin and eye area with natural and safe ingredients.

P.P.S!

Please forward to anyone that you think might benefit from this information. Merci!

Sunshine and Vitamin D Equals a Healthier You!

May 28, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Summer and sunshine-filled days are upon us, at least in some states. This also calls for the use of sunscreen. Unfortunately, most sunscreens contain toxic ingredients that are easily absorbed through your skin and can jeopardize your health.

Good News!

Did you know you can support and protect healthy skin from ultraviolet damage from the inside?! Scientists have identified several nutrients that have UV protective activity which can reduce your risk of sunburn and related skin damage.

Vitamin D Lowers Skin Cancer Risk?!

In a nutshell, the vitamin D your body produces in response to UVB radiation helps protect against melanoma. As noted in one Lancet 2004 Feb 28 study, "Is There More Than One Road to Melanoma?"

"Paradoxically, outdoor workers have a decreased risk of melanoma compared with indoor workers, suggesting that chronic sunlight exposure can have a protective effect.”

Sensible sun exposure and Vitamin D is also crucial for longevity, prevention of many internal cancers and many chronic diseases.

A Swedish study published in 2014, which followed 29,518 middle-aged to older women for up to 20 years, found women who avoided sun exposure and tanning beds were twice as likely to die over the course of the study. The researchers attributed this finding to the protective influence of vitamin D. As stated by Dr. Mercola May 27, 2022, "Take Control of Your Health" newsletter.

As noted by authors in the Swedish study:

“ We found that all‐cause mortality was inversely related to sun exposure habits. The mortality rate amongst avoiders of sun exposure was approximately twofold higher compared with the highest sun exposure group, resulting in excess mortality with a population attributable risk of 3%."

Which Foods Are Rich In Vitamin D?

Cod liver oil

Salmon

Swordfish

Tuna fish

Sardines

Beef liver

Kale

Spinach

Okra

Collards

White beans

Moral of The Story?

Sun is a good thing for your overall health, just don't overexpose.

Are You A "Skinimalist"?

May 23, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

"Skinimalism" (say that five times fast!) and scaling back on skin care products is the current beauty trend.

Experts agree that the skin only needs three to four products. It’s all about achieving clean, healthy and glowing skin, but with a minimal amount of products.

I have been talking to you about the benefits of being a "Skinimalist", Dr. Lucy Pure Natural Skin Care products and the "French Way" for the past twelve+ years. Keeping your life as simple as possible, plus caring for your skin with natural and organic skin care products like Dr. Lucy's, will help you in staying grounded and having calm, youthful and glowing skin.

5 Simple "Food for thought"...

1.As the number of products in your routine grows, so does your risk of inflammation. Layering products exposes the skin to an increasing number of potentially irritating and sensitizing ingredients. Check to be sure you are only layering ingredients that pair well together.

2."Sometimes people are using three or four products that do the same thing, or they're mixing products that shouldn't be used together," says dermatologist Corey L. Hartman, M.D.

3.Using too many skin care products can damage the moisture barrier. The more things that come in contact with skin, the more opportunity for disrupting the skin's pH balance which leads to moisture loss, irritation and skin aging.

4."Fragrance" listed in the product ingredient deck, represents one of the most common causes of allergic contact dermatitis.

5.Exfoliating more than once or twice a week can “breaks down the skin barrier exposing your skin to a higher risk of sensitivity and sun damage” and causing inflammation. Says board-certified dermatologist Zenovia Gabriel, M.D.

Let's talk about the "5 major steps" in a French woman’s daily skin care routine...

The five major areas of attention are 1) cleansing the skin, 2) toning the skin, 3) using the best natural face serums, moisturizers and face oils to nourish the skin, 4) nightly regimens with an anti-aging serum and 5) weekly to monthly facials which can be done in your own home, or in a natural, botanical product salon if you prefer.

Keeping chemical skin care products at bay...

Americans have an unfortunate perception that a beauty product only works if they can feel it working. Due in part to this perception, many American skin care companies pack their products with harsh, inactive ingredients that do little more than cause irritated skin. Just remember chemicals with smaller molecules can enter the bloodstream through your skin and thus your systems and organs. The average woman applies 200+ chemicals through cosmetics and skin care products alone during the course of the day. I think you will agree that is a extremely high number!

Did you know that the U.S. FDA only bans or restricts around 11 chemicals compared to the 1,328 banned chemicals by the European Union?

You would be even more worried if you learned that many of these poorly regulated substances are associated and linked to all kinds of harmful side effects, including skin irritation, birth defects, hormonal imbalances and even cancer.

Why do they add sooo many chemicals to skin care products?!

It's actually quite simple, and it has nothing to do with your health and protection! In a nutshell...

It's cheap. Which equals a better profit margin.
It's faster to produce. Same as above.
It adds volume. Same as above.
It (almost) lasts forever. Same as above.:)
It looks 'perfect'. White looking products usually equal chemicals.
The "pièce de résistance" is because they can. They don't think about, nor care about you or your health. Sorry that was a bit harsh, but I know you know this and I know you know I do care about you and your health.

With Love and Blessings,
Rebecca

What makes Dr. Lucy different?

May 13, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Some positives about Dr. Lucy just for you!

First, Dr. Lucy and natural lab are both here in the U.S.! We are a fresh, natural and organic French style skin care company. We pride ourselves not only in our top quality, fresh, naturally potent ingredients that are formulated correctly by top natural chemists, but also on the fact that integrity and honesty is the root of our company. You see, we plan to be around for a long, long time and a firm honest foundation is always key.

Another important point I wanted to share is the emotional side to our company and products.
The experience is just as important as the product itself.

What do you mean by this?

There are so many different skin care lines coming onto the market daily and pulling us in all different directions, it's hard to know which way to go. So we as individuals need to feel good about the products that we are buying, from companies that are honest and have the highest standards like Dr. Lucy's.

Sooo why is Dr. Lucy special?

Our day-by-day activities make us unaware of the passing of time. We enjoy our daily routines and the habitual part of our routines, applying makeup and getting dressed is most automatic. Then, one morning we look in our mirror and see a face that is no longer youthful, glowing, plump, hydrated, and luminescent.

The Dr. Lucy Pure Natural Skin Care line was designed in the fresh, natural French style way just for these issues. Naturally potent and formulated correctly to balance, nourish, moisturize, plump, and calm your skin. Plus, the essential oils, carrier oils and natural ingredients in our skin care line nourish all types of skin and give each type what it needs to balance, stay stress free and truly come alive. That is the magic of true natural skin care like Dr. Lucy's!

Just an FYI on why we use a special ingredient called Botanical Hyaluronic Acid in the Dr. Lucy skin care products!...

As we age moisture can drop off significantly, which makes the skin lose elasticity and expose the natural signs of aging on the skin. Topical, rather than injectable, Botanical Hyaluronic Acid (HA) plays a critical role in skin health with its unique ability to hold in moisture. Botanical Hyaluronic Acid is also a "smart nutrient" as it can adjust its moisture absorption into your skin based on the humidity-relative to the season and climate.

Important Hyaluronic Acid Facts...

According to the 1999 Journal of Investigative Technology, Hyaluronic Acid penetrates the skin so that the skin is able to absorb just the right amount of moisture. Unlike collagen, HA is able to penetrate the skin's upper layers to improve and benefit the skin when applied topically. Elavonne, a skincare blog with over 20 years experience in developing researched based formulas to improve health says, "Hyaluronic Acid is a major component of skin, where it benefits tissue repair and protection." Hyaluronic Acid is IMPERATIVE to good skin health.

With Love and Blessings,
Rebecca

Can I use just water to cleanse my face?

May 6, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Let's talk about why you need more than just "water" to cleanse your face winter, spring, summer or fall.

Yes, I have heard a few, and I do mean a FEW people that are using "water only cleansing" to cleanse their skin. They are saying cleansing with just water leaves your skin glowing. Even some dermatologists are getting in on this "water only cleansing" process! I will forever say, "you do you", but hear me out when I say "water only cleansing" is honestly just not enough.

Let me tell you a story about my skin and the first job I had in a lighting and plumbing store, then you can make your own decision if "water only cleansing" is the best way to cleanse your skin.

I was a junior at Montgomery High School (Santa Rosa, CA) and a friend told me about this job opening at a lighting and plumbing store. I thought great, this could help me pay for my gas since I lived way up on Sonoma Mtn. Rd, not too far from Glen Ellen, Kenwood, St. Helena and Sonoma/Napa, wine country! Living so far out also meant I used a lot of gas going back and forth from home to school.

I started at Yardbirds" (don't judge :)), filing in the office, also stacking shelves, learning how to assemble the hanging lights, then putting them up on hooks in the front door area of the store, plus training as a checker. Yes, I was taught a little bit of everything!

Yardbirds is where my skin dilemma started!

My skin was always clear except for an occasional breakout (mom and gma taught me well about skin care thankfully). So after about one month of working at Yardbirds, my skin started breaking out like crazy, and I don't mean just a little, I mean flat out, full blown, red, inflamed acne!

Mom really took notice!

She thought about my dilemma then put 2 and 2 together! She said lovingly, you always come home with a dirty face. Yes I did, an oily, dirty face! Then she asked, are you putting your hands on your face during the day? She knew the answer to the question already. I was a very shy child and had my hands on my face a lot, so yes, my hands were on my face on and off ALL during the day!

Together we made up a plan to conquer my skin breakout problem...

First, I had to become hyper-aware of this habit of putting my hands on my face and stopping it! Trust me, this was easier said than done.

Second, I had to wash my face with this crème cleanser (oil based) my mom had, both morning and evening. Actually as soon as I got off work and walked in the door!

Third, I had to change my pillowcase every morning when I woke up to help this process of keeping my skin clean. I also had to wash off the steering wheel in my car every evening because of all the dirt I had on my hands, even though I washed them at work! Like I said, I had to be hyper-aware with this new skin care regime.

Did all this due diligence payoff?

YES! Within two weeks my skin was almost clear again! I had to continue this process the whole time I worked at Yardbirds and beyond!

How does this story have anything to do with cleansing your face with only "water" Water alone does NOT and will not cleanse your skin. Graphically speaking, cleansing with "water only" will not take off the makeup, old sebum, dirt, grime and dead skin cells (just to name a few). Water will only smear all this gunk around your face, helping it to do a deep-dive into your pores and aging your skin unnecessarily faster.

There is a very good saying about cleansing your skin with oil or an oil based crème cleanser, "good oil takes off bad oil".

Here is a dermatologist that does believe in oil based cream cleansers and why cleansing properly with them is the best way to cleanse your skin!

"When massaged into the skin, oils in the cleanser bind to surface impurities (pulling out dirt without clogging pores) and allow them to be comfortably rinsed away leaving the skin clean, soft and hydrated, explained Dr. Diane Walder, a Miami-based cosmetic dermatologist."

Some Q & A about cleansing your skin properly.

According to dermatologist, Dr. Kang Seung Hun, skin sebum and sweat production increase by 20 percent during summer. During this period, the skin also produces more dead skin cells to protect itself from UV rays.

To ensure that our skin stays in tip-top condition, we’ll need to be extra aware about our cleansing routine when the temperature increases to prevent clogged pores, acne, and other possible skin issues under the warmer climate.

So how do we get our cleansing routine down pat during all four seasons? Here are some professional tips according to Dr. Hun based on some common cleansing questions.

Question #1. Can you wash your face using only water if you don’t use makeup?

Tip:*You should always wash your face with a gentle crème cleansing product morning and evening like Dr. Lucy's Gentle Crème Cleanser, even if you haven't applied makeup.

Why?

Even if you haven't applied makeup, your skin still has bodily wastes and sebum caused by sweat and dirt remaining on your skin. Water alone can’t wash them off. So you’ll need to use cleansing products like an oil based crème cleanser to aid in the gentle, deep cleansing process.

Question # 2. Is it beneficial to use an electronic facial cleansing brush if you have a lot of dirt and makeup on your skin?

Tip: Facial cleansing brushes can do a good job of cleansing your skin thoroughly, but it can also irritate your skin. Some women swear by their Clarisonic. Others reported skin allergies and rashes after using the brush.

Why?

According to Dr. Hun, the key is in how you use the brush on your skin. You should never use strength to exert the brush on your face. Always be gentle to ensure the brush feels soft on your skin.

I am personally using only a soft, warm washcloth on my face. I have less Rosacea flare ups this way.

Question # 3. How should you cleanse if you only wear sunscreen and no makeup?

Tip: You should double cleanse even if you only wear sunscreen and no makeup.

Why?

The higher the amount of zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide in sunscreen, the harder it is to wash them off. You will definitely have to double cleanse. In fact, you should be worried if your mineral based sunscreen can be washed off relatively easily because it might not have withstood your perspiration and did not last as long as you’ve desired it to.

I personally do not use a waterproof sunscreen on my face. Hynt Beauty Broad Spectrum SPF25 is what I use.

I hope that gives some food for thought about the "water only" cleansing method.:)

Rebecca

"How Can I Have Skin Like a French Girl?!"

May 3, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

"La manière française", "the French Way" is actually easier than you might think!

French skin care lines use many more natural botanicals and essential oils in their products just like Dr. Lucy's. They are also gentler on your skin.

Americans have an unfortunate perception that a beauty product only works if they can feel it working. Due in part to this perception, many American skin care companies pack their products with harsh, inactive ingredients that do little more than cause irritated skin.

The Dr. Lucy Pure Natural Skin Care line was designed in the fresh, natural French style way. Naturally potent and formulated correctly to balance, nourish, moisturize, plump, and calm your skin. Plus, the essential oils, carrier oils and natural ingredients in our skin care line nourish all types of skin and give each type what it needs to balance, stay stress free and truly come alive. That is the magic of true natural skin care!

So instead of waiting for aging to take its toll and then fighting it with potentially irritating and dangerous ingredients that will put your skin into “overdrive” in a damaging way, use a fresh, natural routine like Dr. Lucy's that will slow and soften the effects of aging long before they begin.

Now is the perfect time to start your very own "French Girl" skin care routine with Dr. Lucy Pure Natural Skin Care!

De-Stress Your Skin Inside and Out!

May 1, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

External and internal daily stressors wreak havoc on our skin, consequently starting the process of our skin's breakdown much more quickly than we would like. Here are a few ways to maintain a calm, clear complexion.

Stress aging…

Anyone who's had a rough week knows the look: puffy eyes, dark fine lines. "We call it stress aging." says Manhattan-based dermatologist and psychiatrist Amy Wechsler, MD. "Daily stressors such as a demanding job, a lack of sleep, and an unhealthy lifestyle can manifest as pallid patches, pimples, and wrinkles, which can add three to six years to your skin."- April Long, ELLE

Stress, digestion, bacteria, inflammation and hormones!...

As dermatologist Whitney Bowen MD, author of The Beauty of Dirty Skin, explains, "Stress slows down digestion, which creates a shift in bacteria that can compromise the integrity of your gut lining. This can cause inflammation throughout the body and lead to acne flare-ups as well as premature aging." Furthermore, the stress hormone cortisol is no friend to skin. "It's infamous for breaking down collagen," Bowen says.

Ways to slow it down...

Thankfully, much of this damage can be slowed down and even stopped by focusing on daily moments of self-care. "When you trigger what's called the relaxation response, it can stop psychological stress from being translated into inflammation," Bowen says. "I have patients download and use the meditation app 'Breathe' and five minutes a day of it can make a world of difference to skin."

Here are a few tips on destressing your skin!

Natural vs. Chemical Skin Care…

Natural skin care uses** topical cremes and lotions made of ingredients available in nature. Chemical skin care stresses the skin causing it to age much faster. They can also be very harmful to your hormones and organs.

Sleeping in your makeup is murder on your pores and complexion...

"Going to bed with makeup on will leave you with clogged pores, since so many makeup products have ingredients like silicones that block the pores. When the pores are blocked, your skin gets bumpy. If you are acne-prone, it can even lead to breakouts. You are effectively damaging skin by neglecting to remove makeup at the end of the day." -Debra Jalman, a New York City-based, board-certified dermatologist and author of Skin Rules: Trade Secrets

Stay Hydrated!

Not only does stress quickly dehydrate the skin, but skin that is dehydrated is unable to function properly.

Drink plenty of water, as well as herbal teas and water-rich foods. This will keep your skin cells hydrated from within.

Regular movement is a major factor!

When you get your heart rate up, your skin receives a greater amount of oxygen and nutrients. This then gives it an immediate glow, while also allowing your skin cells to function more efficiently.

P.S. Atlantic Sea Kelp, (which is in the Dr. Lucy Gentle Crème Cleanser and Luscious Rose Equalizer Hydrating Masque), is known for aiding in the highly unstable free radicals that plague our bodies inside and out. Free radicals cause the process of aging to speed up as well as the inflammation process that leads to the breakdown of collagen, fine lines, wrinkles and sagging of the skin, uneven skin tones plus UV damage from the sun.

P.P.S.! If you enjoy our French Friday's together, we would love for you to share it with your friends and family!

With love and blessings,

Rebecca
