Tips For Making Healthy New Year’s Resolutions!

January 3, 2025 Rebecca Siegfried

That will stick!

Increase your vegetable intake!

Most of us don’t eat enough vegetables, so start small. If you’re not eating many vegetables, focus on adding 1 or 2 more servings a day. Throw a handful of spinach into pasta, or add peppers and onions to your scrambled eggs. You don’t have to start eating salad for every meal to get a big nutritional benefit.

Switch from refined, white grains to whole grain

Choosing whole grain pasta or brown rice can increase fiber, which is important for digestive health.

Cook at home 1 more night a week

We all get in the habit of relying on processed or packaged foods because they’re easier to throw together at the end of a long day. Try to cook just one more night a week with fresh ingredients. It’s a great way to cut down on hidden sodium and extra calories.

Let's talk Celtic Sea Salt vs. table salt!

Some benefits of Celtic Sea Salt...

Enhanced Nutrient Absorption
Supporting Digestive Health
Natural Electrolyte Balance
Balances Ph
Soothing Skin Properties
Healing Damaged Skin
Promotes Cell Growth
Supports Thyroid Health
Relieves Joint Pain and Leg Cramps
Keep Reading For More Benefits!

“Many minerals, including magnesium and potassium, have a direct anti-hypertensive effect. The government-conducted National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) revealed that low mineral intake, specifically of magnesium, potassium and calcium, is directly associated with hypertension. Repeated measurements over 20 years have confirmed the relationship between low mineral intake and elevated blood pressure.”

Altogether, unrefined sea salt contains around 84 minerals, including iodine, calcium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, iron and zinc. In contrast, refined table salt comprises just two minerals, sodium and chlorine, making it extremely unbalanced.

“Unrefined salt will not cause elevated blood pressure,” declares Dr Brownstein. “In fact, due to its abundance of minerals, it can actually help lower the blood pressure in hypertensive patients.”

"An adequate supply of magnesium ensures that unused sodium is promptly eliminated via the kidneys. -Dr David Brownstein, MD, delves into the merits of sea salts in his book, Salt Your Way to Health."

Cons of commercial salt...

Naturally derived Celtic salt has a different taste and texture than table salt, which is industrially refined and processed at high temperatures, turning it into sodium chloride. According to Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, NP, founder of Global Healing, commercial salt is made by taking natural salt and cooking it at 1200° Fahrenheit, a level of heat that destroys many valuable, naturally occurring minerals.

Commercial salt is often adulterated with ingredients such as ferrocyanide, dextrose, talc and silica aluminate, which is a name commonly applied to chemical compounds derived from aluminum. We would ideally avoid consuming this heavy metal in any form, because once an aluminum load exceeds the body’s excretory capacity, the excess is deposited in various tissues, including bone, brain, liver, heart, spleen and muscle. This accumulation appears to be linked to a host of health problems.

Cut down on sugary drinks

Tennessee is second only to Mississippi in soda consumption, and more than 40% of us drink non-diet soda daily. Cutting down on that is an easy way to remove empty calories, and the same is true of juice, which many people forget about. Start by trying to cut out 3 sugary drinks per week, or drink one extra glass of water per day. Most of us don’t drink enough water, and hydration is key for metabolism to function properly. I personal do not like soda, but love unflavored carbonated water that I make in my Soda Stream. Plain water and herb tea are also my go to's everyday.

Go meatless 1 day a week

Swap the meat in one or two meals for beans, lentils or organic tofu, for example, which are great, affordable sources of protein and fiber.

With Love and Blessings!

Is Your Skin Ready For The Coming Cold, Harsh, Dry Weather?

October 25, 2024 Rebecca Siegfried

Dr. Lucy Has You Covered With 6 Helpful Tips!

Fall is here, and the cold winter weather is approaching quickly! We have put away our summer dresses and flip flops and have overnight pulled out our warmer, cozy clothing.

In this October Dr. Lucy Skin Care Newsletter, I will be talking about some of the do’s and don'ts of skin care during these cold, dry months, so let’s just dive right in!

With so little moisture in the air, it’s more important than ever to ensure skin gets properly hydrated in order to avoid flakiness, crepey or rough texture, acne, poor elasticity and worsened appearance of lines and wrinkles. We must use the right products in order to keep skin healthy and firm.

Like I said, Fall and Winter can be extremely drying and quite honestly damaging to our tender and yes sensitive skin. Being extra careful and gentle with your skin during this time of year will help to keep your skin hydrated, calm, plump and dewy even in the coldest of temperatures.

Your Helpful Skin Saving Tips During the Next Six Months!

1. Stay away from the intense exfoliation!

According to Dove Dermatologist Dr. Alicia Barba, we exfoliate way more than we should hoping that the intense rubbing off of dead skin cells daily will improve our skin.
“Over-exfoliating can strip the skin of its essential oils, leading to breakouts in the dryer, colder months”, she says.

2. Invest in a hydrating cleanser

“Dry skin is more than just unsightly and uncomfortable, it can lead to serious skin problems such as worsening of eczema, psoriasis and cause winter itch”, says Dr. Barba.
A cream cleanser, like Dr. Lucy’s, that is nutrient dense with specific carrier oils for protection and deep cleansing, is your new best friend.

3. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

A proper moisturizer, like the Dr. Lucy Ultra Moisturizer, is a key player in keeping your skin super hydrated ALL DAY, protected and nourished. Botanical Hyaluronic Acid holds 1000 times its weight in moisture for nonstop hydration.

4. Add extra hydrating products before bedtime!

Bedtime is the perfect time to up your moisturizer and face oil. You are looking to decrease collagen breakdown so don’t be afraid to seriously moisturize!

5. Hydrating masques? “Ben ouais!”…obviously!

I am a big fan of hydrating masks for their nutrients and ability to heal, calm and hydrate. Not such a fan of drying or peeling masques at all because of how they can actually dry out your skin, breakdown elastin and disrupt the skin surface.

6. Your humidifier is your anti-aging time machine!

Mona Gohara, MD, a Danbury, Connecticut-based dermatologist talks on the benefits of humidifiers. “They definitely add moisture to the skin, and this is important from a skin health perspective,” she tells us. “This moisture can leave the skin radiant, glowing, dewy, and even a bit more plump; these, I suppose could be credited as anti-aging benefits."

Is Summer Changing Your Skin and Not For The Better?

July 12, 2024 Rebecca Siegfried

We all love a bit of summer fun in the sun. But what do you do when all of that summer fun starts taking its toll on your skin?

7 questions and answers to help your summer skin look calm and dewy fresh!

1. Can hot weather cause skin problems?

Heat rash — also known as prickly heat and miliaria — isn't just for babies. It affects adults, too, especially in hot, humid conditions. Heat rash occurs when sweat is trapped in the skin. Symptoms can range from small blisters to deep, inflamed lumps- Mayo Clinic

2. Fewer temperature fluctuations

If the air is lacking humidity, your skin can lack moisture, especially when you're sitting in air-conditioning all day. "Both strip the skin of much-needed moisture, causing a dehydration and importantly to note an impaired barrier function. For many people this can result in not only a really parched skin but also a sensitive one too." Emma Hobson, Education Manager for the International Dermal Institute.

3. Cooler showers and baths

“Benefits of a cold shower include strengthening the contractile fibers (fibers capable of or producing contraction :)) to improve firmness, closing pores which helps reduce the ingress of pollution in the skin at least temporarily, and strengthening the arterioles to improve the skin’s ability to respond to injury.” - Dr. Carl Thornfeldt, the founder of Epionce Skin Care

4. Anti-inflammatory UV light

Surprisingly, ultraviolet light (the type emitted by the sun) can have a positive effect on the skin, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. 10-20 minutes is a great start!

5. SPF should be worn daily, regardless of the weather

Try to find a natural, lightweight, gentle sunscreen with minimum SPF30 protection that has UVA and UVB protection.

6. Make sure your makeup is noncomedogenic

That's an elaborate word for a product formulated without pore-clogging ingredients.

7. To hydrate your skin, drinking water isn't enough

"You also need to focus on two main areas a) prevention of moisture loss form the skin by having a good barrier function combined with products that repair and protect the skins barrier, and b) to use hydrating products which contain humectants, which boost and bind moisture to the surface of the skin preventing dehydration. "Emma Hobson, Education Manager for the International Dermal Institute

So how can Dr. Lucy help with "Summer Skin" in a positive way?

Summer or winter for that matter, can cause our skin to become extremely unhappy with rashes, dehydration, uneven skin-tone, and the list goes on.

Nourish, Renew and Protect is our jam!...Sorry, I had to say that.:)

Dr. Lucy not only nourishes and protects, but renews by aiding in cellular regeneration and collagen stimulation, which are all keys to youthful, plump, happy skin!

Would You Like To Restore Your Skin?

May 10, 2024 Rebecca Siegfried

Then you will need to add a face oil and or serum for every season of the year!

First let's talk about face oil and its ability to repair the skin's barrier during these warm months!

*By the way, I use the Dr. Lucy 2-in-1 Hydrating Serum everyday, twice a day and the Original Proprietary Blend Face Oil at least 2-3 times a week. Complete game changer for me.

Regulating sebum...

Face oils help to regulate sebum (oil production). Our skin wants to produce excess oil to protect and keep our skin hydrated because it gets so thirsty, during the warmer months. Therefore, adding face oil helps your skin and its desire for oil production.

"Also, there’s a huge difference between a facial oil and the natural sebum/oil that is produced by our skin. Facial oils are normally filled with nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins that fed your skin with really good stuff to keep it glowing, young and blemish-free. Excess oils that are produced by our skin to combat the Summer heat are what cause breakouts and black heads." says, Sarah Sayers a beauty blogger in Sydney, Australia

Face oils reduce water loss from the skin, as they act as a barrier to prevent water content of the skin from evaporating.

More lipids please!

If you are looking to repair your skin's surface barrier, then the more lipids in your face oil the better (jojoba is chocked-full of lipids).

“Jojoba oil works by not only blocking water loss from your skin, but it also helps to grab onto water from the environment and bring it into your skin,” he adds. “It’s both a humectant and emollient.” -Alok Vij, MD, Dermatologist, Cleveland Clinic

"Natural oil-containing products might be the best thing for those with oily and even acne-prone skin. “Acne medications often strip the natural barrier of the skin, which can lead to excess sebum production and clogged pores without proper hydration,” says Dr. Talakoub.

Help stop break-outs!

Adding a face oil helps to stop break outs and keep break-outs from starting. Face oils will protect your skin, keeping it from going into overdrive and producing too much of its own oil (sebum).

How to apply a face oil!

A face oil should be the last step in your skin care product application in the morning, but always before your skin screen, and the last step at night.

To start with, one to three drops on your finger tips is more than enough.

Apply by patting your face oil into your skin, don't rub.

If you are using a serum and moisturizer at night, face oil will be the last product to apply to seal it all in.

Benefits of a face serum!

Serums are packed full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, very little humectants, with very small molecules, so that the skin can absorb this magical elixir more quickly, evenly and deeply for ultimate skin benefits.

Can I use my moisturizer in place of a serum?

Serums do not contain the humectants that are in moisturizers for hydration and protection.

Think of a serum as the secret weapon for treating skin issues like discoloration, dullness, fine lines, or acne — and a moisturizer as the key to seal in your serum and maximize its benefits. hydrating and protecting your skin from the outside elements.

Face serum - high concentration of active ingredients...

"The beauty of a serum is that most of the fluid is eliminated, so what you're left with is a high concentration of active ingredients." - Ni'Kita Wilson, a cosmetic chemist and vice president of research and innovation at Englewood Lab.

“Often, a serum is able to hydrate more effectively than even the heaviest creams. The molecules are able to truly penetrate the skin and hydrate on the deepest level, while the heavier creams more so sit on those top layers. Hydrating serums do not necessarily replace your moisturizer, but can boost the hydrating effects of your moisturizer,” said celebrity esthetician Karee Hays.

Here's how to apply these lightweight elixirs for maximum effect.

1. After cleansing your face, apply a pea-sized amount of serum, patting it evenly over skin with your finger.

2.Next spritz on your toner! This allows deeper penetration for all those potent vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to do their very specific work.

3. You don't need to skip the moisturizer you love. Just pat on your serum first, so it isn't blocked from penetrating your skin.

4. Skin is best able to repair and regenerate itself at night so support your skin at night and you will see a dramatic difference during the day.

According to science the peak time for skin repair is between 9pm - midnight, this is due to our skin following a 24 hour cycle.

"Nighttime is prime time for repairing damage and for rebuilding cells and tissues – skin is no different." -Dr. Dennis Gross, Dermatology

Summing it all up!

Face oil and face serum both repair the skin in different ways. So instead of running from face oil and serum in the warmer months, run towards them!

Love and Blessings!

Did I Overwork My Skin?

December 4, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried

Does this sound familiar? You're excited about discovering high performance products and advanced technology you can use at home. You start the skincare journey only to look in the mirror two weeks later and your face looks worse instead of better.

Don't throw out your products and devices. Simply stop and consider you may have overworked your skin in the zeal to do a good job. Listen to what Christine Byer, Master Esthetician has to say in her article, "Did I Overwork My Skin?".

Here's a list of questions to determine if your skin is overworked.

Is it possible your skin is dehydrated?

Excess water loss from the skin can result from: heat, exercise, burns, or skin diseases according to a report by the National Library of Medicine. Remember, when you are using high performance skincare and advanced technology on the skin, you are adding energy and exercise to the skin and underlying fascia and muscle. Dehydrated skin can look dull, feel tight, be overly sensitive, take on a shiny but flaky nature, have dark undereye circles or experience an increase in fine lines. To avoid dehydrating the skin, drink a glass of water prior to using devices, use plenty of conducting gel, and only use devices as directed.

Are you overusing devices?

It's not uncommon to get excited about the possibilities advanced technology can do for anti-aging. It might seem that if a little is helpful, a lot would work wonders. More is not always better in skincare. Consistency is the goal. New collagen growth can take anywhere from four to 12 weeks. It's important to create a consistent routine which balances the use of high performances products and advanced technology, without overdoing it.

Have you started too many new products at once?

It's important to give skin a chance to adjust to new products and devices. A good rule of thumb is to add one new product or device at a time if skin feels overworked. Use it for a week to allow the skin to adjust. This will also help to tell if a product isn't right for your skin, or which combination of products do not work for you.

Remember, there is no such thing as one size fits all skincare.

Shocking your skin with too much at once can show up as white bumps, red bumps, pimples forming under the skin (cysts), blotchy, red patches, dry patches, and clogged pores to name a few.

What lifestyle choices are impacting the health of your skin?

We're investing in the care of our skin but if we don't also make supportive lifestyle choices, we can sabotage our results. Is your diet deficient in nutrition? Do you consume excess caffeine or alcohol? What is your stress level? Are you using low quality makeup? And, is your routine consistent? Our bodies will tells us when something is out of balance. We just have to pay attention and make some necessary adjustments.

How to Reverse Overworked Skin...

The biggest thing to do is, don't panic. After making a few adjustments right for you, your skin will begin to make progress and you'll get results from your investment in self-care with quality skincare products and devices.

Stay on this modified routine for at least one week, longer if needed. You're looking for signs your skin is recovering by seeing less of the overworked symptoms.

Increase your water intake and reduce caffeine and alcohol consumption. Eat a diet high in nutrition with less processed food or fad diets which leave the body lacking in nutrition.
Simplify your routine by starting over with the basics. Choose your gentlest pH balanced cleanser, one serum daily, and one moisturizer. Sunscreen if you're going to be outdoors.
Use LED only 3 times a week with a day of rest in between. When your skin starts to recover, add only one new product or device at a time.
Incorporate stress reduction of some kind. I.E. Breathwork, meditation, prayer, EFT Tapping, bubble bath by candlelight with soft music, get more sleep (go to bed earlier), listening to your favorite music instead of watching TV, etc.

P.S. I personally would add using a microcurrent home device to stimulate cellular activity, collagen, elastin, tighten skin and diminish fine lines and wrinkles.

Does Watermelon Prevent Wrinkles?

August 15, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried

Yes! Plus 14 other benefits just to start!

Let's do a fun dive into one of my favorite fruits, the watermelon!

1. Watermelons are great for your skin and fun to eat!

2. Watermelons contain vitamin rich water, minerals and antioxidants, which counteract aging, wrinkles, and dryness and also brighten the skin.

3. “Watermelon is a naturally low-calorie package,” says Christina Meyer-Jax, RDN, LDN, Standard Process nutrition chair and assistant professor at Northwestern Health Sciences University. “It contributes key antioxidant nutrients that support disease prevention and overall wellness.”

4. "Choosing watermelon over another sweet snack can help you feel full longer, Meyer-Jax explains. Limited research published in the journal Nutrients in 2019 found that subjects who were considered overweight or clinically obese and ate watermelon instead of low-fat cookies experienced greater satiety, as an example. Eating watermelon daily was associated with a decrease in subjects’ body weight, body mass index, blood pressure, and waist circumference." -says Christina Meyer-Jax, RDN, LDN, Standard Process nutrition chair and assistant professor at Northwestern Health Sciences University.

5. "A specific combination of antioxidants, lycopene and vitamin C, found in watermelon can lower inflammation and oxidative damage over time, Derocha explains. Inflammation can cause swelling, pain, or flushed skin for those experiencing it. And chronic inflammation can lead to serious conditions, including cancer, asthma, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes."

6. Watermelons contain 92% water by weight—the most of any fruit.

7. Watermelons are rich in antioxidants—including vitamin C, glutathione, and lycopene, one of the most powerful antioxidant that has been identified in food.

8. Watermelons protect the skin from sunburn because of the Lycopene. This potent antioxidant can play a role in protecting your skin from the sun, making it less likely you’ll get a sunburn. But it definitely doesn’t mean you should skip the sunscreen.

9. Watermelon not only brightens your skin, but helps fight hyperpigmentation, aka “age spots.”

10. “The water and vitamins A, B6, and C in watermelon help your skin stay soft, smooth, and supple,” Derocha says. Vitamin C boosts collagen production, which improves skin elasticity and blood flow to the skin. And vitamin A helps repair skin cells, preventing dry, flaky skin, while vitamin B6 helps with skin breakouts."
11. The Vitamin C in watermelon plays a critical role in the synthesis of collagen, the protein that gives your skin strength and structure. In one large study of middle-aged American women, a higher intake of vitamin C was linked to a lower likelihood of having dry and wrinkled skin. A wedge of watermelon contains 23.2 mg of vitamin C, or 25% of your RDA for this essential nutrient. -American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, November 2007

12. Watermelon protects the skin against harsh environments. Watermelon contains an amino acid known as L-citrulline, which the body converts into another amino acid, L-arginine, which protects the skin from abrasive conditions including dry, cold climates, air-conditioned air, and pollution. -Dr. Howard Murad, M.D.

13. Watermelon is a gentle exfoliant.

14. An Ayurvedic treatment for skin rash utilizes watermelon—both eating the fruit and rubbing the rind on the skin.

Conclusion: Looks like this is a fun fruit, full of vitamin rich water, good for your skin and waistline, aids in protecting you against some health conditions, plus makes you happy when you eat it. I will always say, "Yes please!" to another slice of watermelon. :)

Is Your Skin Overexposed?

July 23, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried

8 Summer skin care tips about sun, exfoliation and hydration!

During the long days of summer, when the sun’s rays are the most intense, exposed skin is more susceptible to the effects of photoaging, or the premature aging of skin cells caused by ultraviolet (UV) light.

In fact, as much as 90% of the visible signs of aging on your skin are a result of sun or UV exposure. - Manhattan Dermatology, New York

Skin Care Tip 1:

"Pay attention to the clock to stay protected.

Part of the appeal of summer is having fun in the sun. But the sun’s rays are at their most intense between 10am and 4pm. By paying attention to the clock while you’re out in the park or playing on the beach, you’re better be able to protect your skin this summer.

You don’t have to run inside when the clock strikes 10am, but you should take steps to avoid sunburn and sun damage. If your shadow is shorter than you are, it’s a good idea to take precautions.

Skin Care Tip 2:

Here are some ways to protect your skin during peak sun hours:

Seek shade like umbrellas, trees, or other sunshades.
Wear a wide-brimmed hat to keep the delicate skin of your face out of the sun.
Choose sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection to stop sun damage around your eyes.
Cover up with loose, light-colored clothing.
Schedule extended outdoor activities outside of peak hours.
You can still have a great time outside in the summer sun as long as you make sunscreen part of your skin care routine and pay attention to the peak sun hours.

Your skin will thank you for taking precautions this summer to prevent premature aging and skin cancer." - Manhattan’s Murray Hill, New York

Skin Care Tip 3:

Try to avoid constant sun exposure and definitely tanning beds. These may also lead to early signs of aging.

Remember, natural sunscreen, hats, sun clothing and umbrellas are vital to protect you and your loved ones from overexposure from the sun.

*Maybe try a non-toxic self-tanning lotion instead. Improvements in these self-tanners has helped to give self-tanning products a more natural, streak-free look. Before applying the lotion, spray or mousse to your entire body, apply it to a small test area just to make sure there is no irritation.

*The Wen Bella Spirit Self Tanning Bronzing Mist gives a beautiful faux tan.

Skin Care Tip 4:

Always use some type of natural exfoliating product (I don't recommend loofas), which will help to remove old, waxy skin cells plus other debris and particles from your skin. Exfoliating will expose the healthy cells and rid your body from the old ones.

*Dry brushing daily if possible, plus a natural enzyme peel a couple times a week will work wonders!

Skin Care Tip 5:

If your lips tend to become chapped in the winter months or wind burnt at other times, using lip balm or lipstick will help to protect the lips from nature’s worst.

* I actually use the Dr. Lucy 2-in-1 Hydrating Serum on my lips before applying my lipstick or lip balm! I like the added layer of protection.

Skin Care Tip 6:

Dry or cracked skin can be very unbearable, not to mention the discomfort. Use plenty of natural moisturizing body lotions and body oils in order to replenish and lock in the skin's natural moisture. The environment can be very hard on your skin so be aware.

*After your bath or shower apply lotions and oils while your skin is still damp to lock in all that super moisture and hydration.

Skin Care Tip 7:

Do not use products that irritate your skin in any way. The harsh ingredients in soaps and other foaming products strip your skin of its natural oils. This goes for body lotions with "fragrance" and other toxic chemicals.

*The hot sun mixed with toxic chemical ingredients and "fragrance" from your skin care products can cause dangerous reactions to your skin!

Skin Care Tip 8:

Pretend you have sensitive skin even if you don't. This way you are more prone to baby your beautiful epidermis!

Do Your Collagen Supplements Really Work for Your Skin?

July 29, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Before we get started, I want to apologize for no Bonjour French Friday last week! I was at a meeting in Los Angeles, actually at the Hilton Hotel, LAX and for some reason I forgot to send it out! Could I have scheduled it on autopilot? YES! But did I? NO! I/we missed this step!

When did I realize this? Sitting in the meeting on Sunday morning! It hit me like a ton of bricks! (I hate it when it does that!). Anyway, meeting was great, flight was great (watched James Bond, Quantum of Solace). When I finally got home, my cozy Casper bed felt heavenly!

Let's talk about collagen supplements, some pros and cons, then you decide...

Even though research about the effectiveness of collagen supplements is still in its early stages, pills and powders that contain collagen have gained popularity in recent years.

Collagen supplements are often advertised as being able to do things like restore sagging skin and diminish wrinkles. Some research supports the idea that collagen supplements can be beneficial to your skin and overall health, but the research is very limited.

Collagen is an important part of our skin's makeup, it provides structural support and elasticity. After age 20, people begin slowly losing their body's collagen supply each year.

What happens when you consume collagen supplements?

You can't actually target specific areas of your body and these products may not be absorbed by your body in a way that will make a visible or notable difference in your skin.

Like most proteins, when collagen is heated, it loses all of its structure with the unwinding and separation of Atom proteins, etc. Then, when this denatured mass of tangled chains cools down, it soaks up all of the surrounding water like a sponge, forming gelatin, which you don't want... Had to get a little chemistry talk in.

Look at it this way...

Powder collagen should not gel, but food collagen (like bone broth, etc.) should gel.

In a nut shell? "Fuggedaboutit"!

Heat harms the potency and effectiveness of a variety of vitamins and other nutrients. Starting at about 120 °F and going all the way up to 240 °F, which is about 30 degrees hotter than boiling water! Anything above 240 °F? Denatured and pretty much down and out for the count!

Most collagen supplements and powders are not highly regulated.

Since the FDA categorizes supplements as a food, not a drug, they do not verify the claims made about these items.

Healthier alternatives? YES please!

The effects of collagen supplements continue to be researched and debated. Instead of buying these supplements, you can always help your body make more collagen naturally by ensuring your diet is packed with healthy foods.

Foods that contain gelatin, such as bone broth, provide collagen.

Gelatin is a protein substance derived from collagen after it’s cooked and is found in the connective tissues of animals. Thus, foods such as chicken skin, pork skin, beef, and fish are sources of collagen.

Major Collagen Food Players...
Proline: found in egg whites, dairy, cabbage, mushrooms, and asparagus
Glycine: found in pork skin, chicken skin, and gelatin, and a variety of other protein-rich foods
Vitamin C: for collagen synthesis. Found in citrus fruits and bell peppers
Zinc: found in beef, lamb, pork, shellfish, chickpeas, lentils, beans, milk, cheese, and various nuts and seeds
Copper: found in organ meats, cocoa powder, cashews, sesame seeds, and lentils

Bottom line?

Dr. Lucy will help you in taking care of your collagen and elastin on the outside. You take care of your collagen from the inside. :)

To You and Your Beautiful Skin!
Rebecca

P.S. Dr. Lucy's NEW Replenishing Trio is here! Nourish, Renew and Protect!

Is Summer Changing Your Skin and Not for the Better?

July 18, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

We all love a bit of summer fun in the sun. But what do you do when all of that summer fun starts taking its toll on your skin?
