A peek into a French woman's natural skin care routine!

French women in general take their skin care regimen seriously even from an early age. This gives them a huge upper hand when it comes to skin aging, and they are serious about every step in their skin care routine.

Skin cleansing, first things first!

Cleansing of the facial skin should be at the top of every skin care routine. For Europeans and most notably the French, cleansing of the skin begins with special crème and milk cleansers. French skin care rejects old fashioned bar soap and is even skeptical of liquid facial cleansers that can strip, damage and cause dry flaky skin on the face. These facial cleansers should be gentle enough to use several times a day even on the most sensitive skin.

Next: The importance of skin toning…a thousand times yes!

The reason why French skin care routine places significant emphasis on toners is because these products can balance out the PH level (potential hydrogen) of your skin, which allows the skin’s PH to stay around 5.5 or a little lower, which in turn helps the skin to maintain and retain the skin’s fatty protective layer and moisture. This is a big YES and exactly what our skin needs to absorb all those good nutrients and look dewy fresh! Once the skin is cleansed it is patted dry and a facial toner is applied after about a minute. This ensures that the skin is clean and dry which maximizes absorption of the toner. If there is any oil or dirt left on the skin the toner will take care of it. Now the skin is primed to absorb the nutrients in the serums and moisturizers.

Facial serums…smaller molecules equal deeper penetration.

The use of anti-aging serum products is not unique to French women but their skin care routine dictates a more regular utilization than other cultures. Skin needs to repair after a day of exposure to the damaging harsh elements in the environment. Due to the serum products thinner consistency and smaller molecules they also penetrate the skin deeper and are packed with a higher percentage of patent ingredients.

Skin moisturizing is a must!…

Crèmes and sunscreens are also used in French skin care. Specialized oils and crèmes can quickly address dry flaky skin feeding it with nutrients to balance it. Using them daily keeps the skin calm, moist and plump thus minimizing inflammation, fine lines, and wrinkles. We need fatty acids in our daily diets to keep our bodies healthy and we need the same fatty acids and lipids to keep our skin healthy.

Face oil, dewy skin for days!

If you are looking to have healthier, younger looking skin without exposure to harsh chemicals, toxins, treatments or pharmaceutical ingredients then by adding face oils to your skin care routine you can actually transform your skin to a balanced, dewy, glowing, younger looking you.

When you apply the face oil it is absorbed into the epidermis (top layer of the skin) where it quickly improves and re-stabilizes the lipid barrier function. This oil can actually penetrate close to the collagen level because of the small molecules, and helps restore plump skin and diminish or eliminate some of the fine wrinkles.

Apply your face oil in place of a moisturizer or layer your moisturizer first, then add face oil.

Natural facial masques, Oui!

Using a natural hydrating facial masque one to two times per week can bring back a youthful look and glow to your skin. It revitalizes, brightens, de-stresses your skin and aids in cell renewal. Plus, it just makes all your other skin care products work that much better!

Now is the perfect time to start!

So instead of waiting for aging to take its toll and then fighting it with potentially irritating and dangerous ingredients that put their skin into overdrive in a damaging way, French women use a natural routine that slows and softens the effects of aging long before it begins.

*Always remember it is never, ever too late to start your preventive skin changing routine.

Here is a bit of science from Tuck and what happens to our skin as we sleep. It also applies to better skin care nutrient absorption at bedtime.

Collagen and Growth Hormone
Early in the nighttime sleep cycle, people typically have a surge in growth hormone. This period of deep sleep, stages 3 and 4 sleep, contributes to what people call “beauty sleep” as secretion of growth hormone helps repair and rebuild body tissues like muscle and bone. Many of the body’s tissues also show increased collagen, cell production, and slower breakdown of proteins during deep sleep. Since proteins are the building blocks needed for cell growth and for repair of damage from factors like stress and ultraviolet rays, deep sleep is truly “beauty sleep".

P.S.
Studies show the best time to use a hydrating masque and other nutrient dense skin care products is right before you go to bed. I use the Luscious Rose Equalizer Hydrating Masque at least a few times a week and right after I cleanse my face with the Gentle Crème Cleanser in the bath (love the steam). Why? This is actually the time when the skin starts to regenerate.

With Love and Blessings,
Rebecca

7 Reason Why You Should Be Using A Face Oil!

April 15, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

When we see young, glowing skin, we’re witnessing the skin at its very best stage – the skin structure is still preserved by its naturally produced oils.

Once these oils start decreasing, our delicate acid mantle (the naturally secreted, thin, protective film that covers our skin) is disturbed, but we still hold some power in our hands – We can still transform its state and bring it back to plump, calm, glowing, youthful skin again by nourishing it with natural and organic nutrient dense oils.

To start with, what are face oils?

Face oils are specially formulated skin care, oil based products with mega concentrations of vitamins, antioxidant's and minerals.

They also help to prevent early signs of aging, soothe skin, and boost skin's ability to repair and maintain itself.

Why should you add a face oil to your skin care regime?

To protect your skin from environmental stress, pollution, chemicals and UV rays, which all lead to aging skin.

Will a face oil clog my pores?

On the contrary, they actually help to unclog old sebum, bacteria and old skin cells.

*On a side note, Dr. Lucy's Gentle Crème Cleanser has organic olive fruit oil as it's second ingredient. This natural, gentle oil deeply cleanses impurities from the skin, unclogs pores, and removes all makeup.

Does a face oil really hydrate the skin?

Actually no, face oils do not contain hydrating ingredients like humectants or water.

The mega benefits to a face oil is to seal in moisture and hydration. It also seals in your serum and moisturizer, keeping all those vitamins, antioxidants and minerals locked in to aid in calm, soft, plump, glowing skin!

Will face oil give me acne or make my acne worse?

No. It may sound counter intuitive, but it is quite the opposite. A natural face oil in your skin care routine will actually help to reduce or eliminate acne.

How is this possible?

Face oils like the Dr. Lucy proprietary blend face oils, help acne by softening and removing old sebum, reducing inflammation, preventing excess oil production and killing acne causing bacteria.

"There are some facial oils that can actually help your skin produce less pore-clogging sebum. These facial oils contain ingredients that can kill acne-causing bacteria and help slough off dead skin cells," said Dr. Debra Jaliman, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City

Should I use a face oil at night or in the morning?

Personally I prefer night. Some people are fine with using a face oil in the morning right after their toner. You can always experiment to find out which is best for you!

I'm not sure if I would even like using a face oil, what should I do?

You can always try the Dr. Lucy Sample Kit! Two generous, proprietary blend face oils are inside this kit special kit!

*The Dr. Lucy Proprietary Blend Face Oils are loaded with collagen protecting and producing antioxidants. Plus omega-rich fatty acids to help protect the skin's natural oil barrier, critical In keeping skin calm, plump and moisturized!

With Love and Blessings,

Rebecca

Are Your Electronic Devices Giving You "Toasted Skin Syndrome?!"

April 8, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

This weeks French Friday is all about protecting your skin from "Toasted Skin Syndrome" while using your electronic devices.

Plus! Don't Miss!** The Ultra Moisturizer and Cult Favorite 2-in-1 Hydrating Serum Duo! Nourish and nurture your skin while adding a layer of protection against the harmful environmental elements.

"Toasted Skin Syndrome" What It Is and How You Can Avoid It!...

No matter how I try to keep computer work to a minimum I am still on these devices way too much! Here is an article by Dr. Janet Zand, Oriental Medicine on how we are damaging our skin by using our electronics whether it's the computer, phone, iPad, etc.!

Do You Use Any of the Following Devices?

Laptop, phone, computer space heater, heating pad, electric blanket, etc.?

If so, you might unknowingly be doing damage to your skin.** That includes damage to your blood vessels ... and possibly even the collagen and elastin in your skin. **(And as you probably know, collagen and elastin are what keep your skin from sagging.)

So What is Causing This Damage?

It’s a condition called Erythema Ab Igne, or Toasted Skin Syndrome. And it’s becoming more and more common.

Here’s What You Need to Know to Protect Your Skin...

Signs of Toasted Skin Syndrome!

Toasted Skin Syndrome is caused by heat, although it is not a burn.** Instead, it’s caused by a low level of heat, between 109.4 to 116.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Some of the most common devices that give off that kind of heat are space heaters, heated blankets, heating pads, and laptops.

And the damage is so gradual, you don’t even notice it at first.** Then one day, you see an itchy, reddish-brown rash on your skin. Unfortunately, by that time the damage is done. Your skin has been “toasted,” damaging blood vessels, collagen, and elastin in the skin.

In the most serious cases, Toasted Skin Syndrome can even lead to certain types of skin cancer.

What To Do About It...

Luckily, the solution is very simple. Just be mindful about how you use devices that give off heat.

For instance, don’t crank up a heating pad or blanket to the highest setting, or use them for prolonged periods of time. And don’t get too close to space heaters. As great as it might feel to stand over a heater in the winter, that warm air will damage your skin.

Don’t Put Your Laptop On Your Lap...

If you’ve ever worked with your laptop directly on your lap, you probably already know how quickly it can heat up your skin.

In fact, a report published by the National Institutes of Health found that laptops are a big cause of Toasted Skin Syndrome, affecting skin on the legs, thighs, and even on the stomach.

Now, if you really like using your laptop on your lap, another option is a lap desk. A lap desk rests on your lap, and your laptop sits on top of it. (Lap desks are better for your laptop, too, since they give your laptop better ventilation!)

Finally, If You Ever End Up With a Rash From Toasted Skin Syndrome...

You can try treating it with over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% cream. Or, for a more natural solution, try aloe vera gel.

If there’s no improvement in a couple of days, see a dermatologist. They can provide other treatments or medications to help heal your skin.

So ... be careful with those heating devices. And here’s to warmer weather ahead, when we won’t need space heaters or heating blankets anymore!

P.S. Don't Forget to wear "Blue Light Blocking Glasses" whenever you are working on the computer, iPad or phone for that matter!

With Love and Blessings,

Rebecca

A fun story with a Delta flight attendant!

April 1, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Had to re-share this email+!
A couple of Fridays ago, I had to fly to LA for two meetings, and as you know I always take some of the Dr. Lucy Sample Kits and information with me to hand out to the flight attendants. As you also know, flying 35,000 feet in the air is sooo hard on the skin and unfortunately very aging, so the attendants are always excited to receive the Sample Kits!

On another positive note, some of the Dr. Lucy products like the Ultra Moisturizer, contain botanical hyaluronic acid (the "smart" ingredient) which can hold 1,000 times its weight in moisture! Plus this special moisturizer has super protective oils and other key ingredients to combat the harsh environment of the air in the plane.

The flight attendants always have a million skin questions!

Ok, back to my story about the Delta flight attendant. Michelle was a very pretty, tall, happy and very spunky lady that was the lead attendant in first class. I got up to use the restroom and had to wait because it was occupied, so of course I started a conversation with her. Michelle asked me if I was a flight attendant and after I said "no," the conversation transitioned into talking about Dr. Lucy! We were laughing, talking and every time I told her I better sit down she would grab my arm and say, "No, it's alright, you can stay here!"

We went from talking all about Dr. Lucy, to me explaining to her that looking and staying younger was an inside/outside job, and so much more than just putting a nice crème on your face. She asked me what I would recommend for crepey skin and I told her about "dry brushing," plus an excellent body oil and face moisturizer.

Dry brushing in my opinion works so much better than sugar or salt scrubs...

I told her dry brushing works to remove the dead skin cells, which reveals a more youthful skin that looks airbrushed! Plus, it changes your skins texture including tightening, reducing cellulite, but the best thing of all is you look and feel healthier! Dry brush everyday (face and body) before you shower or take a bath, (google how to dry brush). After dry brushing and a bath or shower, apply your toner to your body (yes, the benefits are amazing), natural body oil and face moisturizer like the Dr. Lucy Ultra Moisturizer. A lot of body lotions just do not have enough good oils to make positive changes to your skin.

She also wanted to talk about micro current and if it really did work and was it safe. That is when I told her I have had a micro current practice for ten years, how safe micro current was, how it works, how it is natural, how the body recognizes it as a good wave and that is similar to the same energy within our own bodies.

3 morals to this story?

1. Top of the line, fresh, natural skin care products like Dr. Lucy's are a must.
2. Dry brushing your skin will make it healthier, denser, stronger, more youthful.
3. Micro current is good for you and your skin. Tighten, uplift, mega boost your own collagen production, giving your skin more beautiful, glowing, youthful skin!

P.S. Remember crepey skin is also extremely dehydrated skin. So hydrate, fresh food and good oils inside and out.

With Love and Blessings,
Rebecca

Doc's Testimonial and I'm Impressed!!

I am not a skin care expert, but I do know a little about skin nutrition and health. Certainly not as much as Rebecca at Dr. Lucy, but I do know I would not be without a "daily dose" of her moisturizer. After a shave and a shower in the morning, nothing feels better on my skin. Simply just feels great. "A little dab'l do do you". Before bed as well. I've been using it for years and when we travel it's one of my most important things in my shaving bag.

Plus, when I do my social media ads for my clinic specialties, I just wash my face and put on a fresh amount of Dr. Lucy's Ultra Moisturizer and my producers tell me my face looks as good and photogenic as if I had my face done professionally!!

Thank you, Dr. Lucy. Thank you, Rebecca, for your care and concern in making ---in my humble opinion-- Dr. Lucy's the best skin care products available. -Doc Siegfried

Go Green For Spring Cleaning!

March 25, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Spring is just around the corner, and here in the Pacific Northwest, it has already arrived! After a long and cold winter, the Sun is beginning to shine, the days are warming, cherry trees are budding and plum trees are in bloom. It won’t be long before the streets are lined with trees covered in blossoms of pink and purple, letting us know its time for spring cleaning!

Here Are Three Natural Green Ideas!

This year go green and take care of spring cleaning with natural cleaning alternatives.

Castile Soap

Essential Liquid Castile Soap made with organic Aloe Vera juice, organic Coconut Oil, and organic Olive Oil, without any artificial colors, fragrances or preservatives is an excellent green cleaning alternative. Castile Soap is most often used as a shampoo and body wash, but this gentle natural cleaner has many more applications than detergent and surfactant-free personal care. Add 3-5 tablespoons of Castile Soap to a bucket of water to make a mopping solution. Castile Soap cuts through dirt and it is 100% biodegradable, leaving behind absolutely no harmful chemical residues. Add a quarter cup of Castile Soap to one cup of water to make a carpet cleaner strong enough to work out a winter’s worth of accumulated dirt. Castile can be used as a dish soap and laundry detergent alternative. Castile Soap can also be used to clean sinks, countertops, and the tub.

Sodium Bicarbonate Baking Soda

For areas needing a tougher cleaning, we recommend you employ another great natural cleaning compound: Baking Soda, an excellent natural cleaner, and deodorizer. An open box of Baking Soda is frequently left in the fridge to prevent a stale odor, but it can be used for more than that. Sprinkle the area you wish to clean with Baking Soda then apply your Castile solution. The Baking Soda will act as a mild scouring powder, increasing the Castile solution’s cleaning power. Sprinkle Baking Soda over the carpet the night prior to vacuuming to remove odors. Letting to sit overnight gives more time for the Baking Soda to absorb as much odor as possible. Baking Soda can also be used to absorb odors from closets, laundry bins, garbage cans, shoes, etc.

Olive Oil

While Dr. Lucy uses certified organic Olive Oil in some of our skin care products, plain pure Olive Oil will work perfectly well as a green, non-toxic wood polish. Olive Oil softens and moisturizes wood surfaces, leaving them smooth and glossy, and preventing cracks and splitting. Use one-quarter teaspoon of Lemon Essential Oil to one cup of Olive Oil to add a zesty lemon aroma to your polish. Pour a few drops on a soft cloth and work into in the wood in circular motion until its surface is replenished and lustrous.

With Love and Blessings

Rebecca

"Why do you talk so much about skin care, isn't this a bit narcissistic?!"

March 22, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Believe it or not, I have been asked this question.

Let me break this down for you, then I'm sure you will be on the exact same page as I am.

First and always - I will only talk to you about natural skin care products. I do not believe in chemical products for the skin, they cause more harm than good...period.

Second - The skin is your bodies largest organ. It is the only one that is exposed and assaulted by the outside elements everyday.

Third - If you are looking to protect your skin, plus keep it healthy and more youthful with fewer issues, then you need to cleanse, tone and moisturizer it properly. When you do this everyday without fail, you will FOREVER have healthier skin that is protected and more beautiful! It's the 1+1=2 rule :).

Skin care is important because:

"It protects your skin, which is the body’s largest organ. According to Dr. Wassef of Dermatology & Cutaneous Surgery Institute, good skin care helps your skin stay in good condition. With proper care and maintenance, your skin can look better than ever before. Your skin sheds itself daily, a major reason you must begin taking care of it. Future skin can be dull with lots of imperfections if not cared for properly. That’s why it is so important to take care of your skin now -- to protect your future skin." DCSI Dermatology, Wellington Florida

Washing and moisturizing your face seems like a task we’ve done a million times, but there are some easy tips that can make a big difference in how it looks now and in the future.

In case you need a refresher, here are some basic tip!

Step 1: What is your skin type?

Here’s a quick guide to identifying your skin type.

This step will help you find out which type of skin you have on your face...

Dry Skin – Can’t get enough crème? Flaky or rough skin? If you’re not sure, wash and dry your face and wait a few minutes. Does your skin feel tight? If so, you likely have dry skin.

Oily Skin – If your skin is often greasy-feeling or extra shiny, you likely have oily skin.

Combination Skin – A mix of areas that are dry and oily.

“Normal” Skin – No notable problems, and not sensitive to common products.

Sensitive Skin – Will likely react to common products, stinging or burning after use.

Step 2: Choose a gentle crème cleanse like Dr. Lucy Gentle Crème Cleanser.

This special crème cleanser will not strip your natural oils, but will take off old sebum, grim and even bullet proof mascara!

Step 3: Using your hands, gently rub the crème cleanser over your face, then add lukewarm water, never hot.

There’s no need to scrub your skin however tempting it is, because this damages the soft layers of your skin. It can be hard to remember how delicate your skin really is, but the goal is to avoid micro-abrasions. This is also why we don’t recommend using a physical exfoliant with scrubbing granules—it can be wonderful for the skin on the rest of your body, but the granules are too rough for your face no matter how smooth they are.

Step 4: Take your crème cleanser, dirt and grim off very gently with warm water and a SOFT washcloth, then gently pat dry with a clean towel.

Don’t worry that the cleanser doesn't lathered! Non-foaming cleansers are the best!

Step 5: Tone & Moisturize...

These steps will help skin stay soft, supple and avoid skin "dry out" from the cleansing process.

Using a toner - is a slightly newer step in the US skin care routine, but it is sooo important in helping to lay the foundation for the wonderful ingredients in your serum and moisturizer. You have heard me say this time and time again.

Serums - are the nutrient-rich step of your skin care routine. The Dr. Lucy 2-in-1 Hydrating Serum is formulated for all skin types. Plus! 2-in-1 refers to face and eye area!

Moisturize - your skin and help keep its youthful glow with a good moisturizer like the Dr. Lucy Ultra Moisturizer. Then topped off with a natural sunscreen.

P.S. Washing your face really is as simple as it sounds. Make sure you have the right temperature of water, a cleanser that is gentle on your skin, and avoid being too rough can make a big difference.

With Love and Blessings,
Rebecca

What is "Clean Beauty" and the "French Way?"

March 4, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Can you believe March is here? This means a new season is just around the corner. Even the cherry blossoms are peeking out!

I was thinking now would be a good time to revisit the importance of "Clean Beauty" and the "French Way".

What Exactly Does "Clean Beauty" Mean to You?...

Here at Dr. Lucy "Clean Beauty" means ingredients and proprietary formulations that meet the highest industry standards, which are safe and non-toxic. If you are using other products than Dr. Lucy's on your skin, do they meet these standards? There is a difference!

Ingredients That Are "Not Clean" and Very Toxic to You and Your Skin. Well Worth the Read.:

Formaldehyde: A known carcinogen and irritant found in nail products, hair dye, fake-eyelash adhesives and some shampoos. It has been banned in other countries.

Fragrance: Has hormone-disrupting effects. Fragrance is also connected to headaches, dizziness, asthma and allergies. Instead, use products with natural fragrances only.

Lead: A known carcinogen and hormone disruptor found in certain eyeliners, hair dye and lipsticks.

Mercury: A known irritant and allergen that, with body accumulation over time, can impair the brain and nervous system.

Parabens (Propyl-, Isopropyl-, Butyl- and Isobutyl-): Used as preservatives in many products. A study published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology in 2004 detected parabens in breast tumors and discussed their estrogen-like properties. While this doesn’t create a direct connection with cancer, I recommend avoiding these ingredients.

Oxybenzone: An active ingredient in chemical sunscreens that accumulates in fatty tissues and is linked to allergies, hormone disruption and cellular damage. I recommend wearing skin-protective clothing and using natural minerals or zinc products.

DEA/TEA/MEA (Ethanolamines): Used as emulsifiers and foaming agents for shampoos, body washes, soaps and topical application. It’s been associated with cancer in animal studies.

What is the "French Way" Anyway?

Taking special care of your skin with a consistent natural routine, using gentle yet therapeutic products everyday for the rest of your life.

A French Woman’s Daily Skin Care Routine: 5 Major Steps...

1. Cleansing the skin with a natural, hydrating crème cleanser.

2. A natural toner is without question a must right after cleansing.

3. French women always use the best natural face serums, moisturizers and face oils like Dr. Lucy's to nourish their skin.

4. Nightly regimens always and forever include, never going to bed without removing your makeup. Plus, a natural anti-aging serum is a must.

5. Weekly to monthly facials which can be done in your own home, or in a natural, botanical product salon if you prefer.

A Very Strong Side Note on Using a Natural Toner...

I know of sooo many skin care companies that will tell you a toner is not necessary. In fact, some dermatologist (not all) will tell you this also! Sorry and respectfully speaking try not to listen to them about this. I know you are thinking, "Wow! That was kind of a bold statement you just made!" Yes, I know, but hear me out and please read on...

Let's Listen to Dermatologist Arielle Kauvar Talk with Allure on Why Using a Toner Is So Important!

"To put it simply, toner looks like water and acts like water. But I swear it's not water. It's packed with so much more than hydrogen and oxygen. Depending on the toner, it also can contain acids, glycerin, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatories.

Plus, on a makeup-related note, toner is like a primer for the rest of your skin-care routine like serums and moisturizer, New York-based dermatologist Arielle Kauvar tells Allure".

French Skin Care and Makeup vs. U.S. Skin Care and Makeup...There is a Difference!

Women in France value having beautiful skin. Emphasizing on quality, natural skin care products are very important to them. The abundance of many facial salons, not only in the big city of Paris, but also in small villages around the country shows how important skin care is. There are about as many skin care salons in France as there are nail salons in the United States. Monthly facials are a regular part of a woman’s life in France. In the U.S. we are so busy with our lives and always have excuses to not taking the time to relax and care for ourselves. A pampering facial can be just what the Doctor ordered!

Remember, “Skin care lasts a lifetime, makeup lasts a day!”

P.S. Makeup (when used) should be as natural and as toxic free as possible. Think of makeup as an enhancement to your own beautiful face.

What Does All of This Information Mean to You?

In a nutshell, healthy skin means happier and more contented you!

A little trivia!
Why does Dr. Lucy use organic Aloe leaf juice in some of the products?
Aloe leaf juice speeds up skin cell reproduction by as much as eight times and penetrates the epidermis (outer skin layer) four times faster than water. According to Dr. Danhof of North Texas Research Laboratories.

So You Are Sleeping In Your Makeup?! Oh Mon Dieu!

February 24, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Sorry if I'm being a bit blunt, it's all done with love and caring.

You don't need to be a licensed dermatologist to realize that sleeping in your makeup is not the best idea. It's not good for your skin or your sheets. You might think, "It's late, I'm tired, what's the harm of crashing without washing my face just this once?" Well, it causes more harm than you might think. Going to be bed without washing your face is bad news and can have a cumulative harmful effect.

Sleeping in makeup is murder on your skin, please read on to find out why!

"Going to bed with makeup on will leave you with clogged pores, since so many makeup [products] have ingredients like silicones that block the pores," says Debra Jalman, a New York City-based, board-certified dermatologist and author of Skin Rules: Trade Secrets From A Top New York Dermatologist. "When the pores are blocked, your skin gets bumpy. If you are acne-prone, it can even lead to breakouts." You are effectively damaging skin by neglecting to remove makeup at the end of the day.

"Foundations and thick, oil-based primers are often the worst offenders. They prevent the skin from renewing itself naturally at night, causing blackheads, acne and dullness." Says Dr. Erin Gilbert, an NYC-based dermatologist.

Here are just 17 (yes, there are more!) major problems that can occur when you sleep in your makeup, or decide to not wash your face before you go to bed, even if you are not wearing makeup! ...

You damage skin cells.
Pores get clogged.
Cell regeneration is interrupted.
Acne can happen...at any age.
Skin becomes dull.
Your skin dries out.
You can end up with an uneven skin tone.
Irritated eyes can occur.
Eyelashes can break off.
You can get eye styes.
Eyelid eczema is a real thing.
You can scratch your corneas.
You make a mess of your sheets.
You can get chapped lips.
You can speed up the aging process, aka wrinkle faster!
Whew and Yuck!

Moral of this story? Keep your skin youthful as you age by cleansing, toning and moisturize with fresh, natural skin care products like Dr. Lucy's Gentle Crème Cleanser, Balance and Refresh Toner, and Ultra Moisturizer. I promise you, when you take care of your skin you will have younger looking skin for the rest of your life!

With love and blessings,
Rebecca

February Is The Month Of Better Skin and LOVE...Actually!

February 20, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

One way of showing love and respect for your body, is by taking care of your skin!

In the paragraphs below, that I posted on Social Media a while back, I'm going to talk about natural masques and why I only recommend natural, non-drying masques. Plus it doesn't matter what your skin type is.

I know, I can hear you from here saying, "are you crazy!" Lol! Probably, but not about skin care and definitely not about what kind of masque to use. I will also breakdown why you should be using a natural, hydrating masque, plus some of their benefits.

A masque is or should be a nutrient dense barrier you apply to your skin once or twice a week. This masque should also be high in antioxidants for calming inflammation, firming, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, softening and diminishing scar tissue. Plus a masque that will aid in repairing the dreaded "sun damaged" skin. Damage that becomes more noticeable with each passing birthday. Remember your skin is having those birthday celebrations also!

Why a drying, peeling or chemical masque is not your friend! Please keep reading...

The Dr. Lucy social media post...

"I have learned the hard way! I am not a big fan of drying, peeling or chemical masques. Why? I have sensitive skin and am prone to Rosacea. So with that said I can tell you what can possibly happen if you use a harsher kind of masque, whether you have "sensitive, dry, normal or oily skin issues.

Our skin is a natural organ that needs to be cleansed, hydrated and protected everyday. Drying, peeling and chemical masques have a tendency to disrupt the surface layer of the skin by pulling and tearing the skin and cell structure and some do this more than others. These type of masques can also cause a loss of elasticity, promote inflammation, irritations, uneven skin-tone and very possibly sagging skin!"

Let’s breakdown some myths about the types of skin we might have, and to better understand why using a natural hydrating masques is best.

Sensitive skin can be oily, dry and seem more balanced and normal when you calm the inflammation and get it under control. Drying, peeling, and chemical masques have the potential to disturb your skin and cause more inflammation and irritation.

Dry skin is lacking good oils from the inside and on the outside. Therefore, a drying, peeling, chemical masque could just make this condition worse and cause a vicious, negative skin cycle.

Normal skin can seem balanced if you are meaning "normal" as being not too sensitive, dry or oily. With that said, even "normal" skin can become disturbed, have dry patches, inflammation, and breakouts. As you can see, the word "normal" is extremely relative.

Oily skin is just the sebaceous glands giving out a bit too much sebum. I have observed through the years as a Micro Current technician, and developer of Dr. Lucy, how many clients with oily skin have used these drying, clay masques. They have noticed how their skin actually becomes more oily after using them.

So again, drying clay masques are not your friend. Your goal is to balance your oil production and though it may sound counterintuitive a clay masque will dry your skin out and cause your glands to work overtime producing even more oil.

A hydrating masque like Dr. Lucy's is chocked full of good oils!

Good oils in a hydrating masque, help to "unclogged" old sebum (old skin oil) out of your pores and off your skin, leaving it hydrated and more youthful looking.

What does this mean?

Hydrating masques=no disturbance to your skin! The skin’s mantle (protective layer) remains in more of a Ph balance. This also means that all of those antioxidants and nutrient dense ingredients will dive deeper into the skin's top layer to nourish and help balance your oil production. Amen to that!

Fun Facts!

History Of The Face Masques:

The first thick, creamy facial mask had honey as a main ingredient and was invented in England during the 18th century by Madame Rowley. Did you know honey was and still is a very popular hydrating and healing masque!

P.S. Marketing is how products get into the customers (your/my) hands. Investigate before you buy and always ask why. I love the saying, “Trust But Verify.” I personally always say, “Verify First and Maybe Trust.” Intuition can be a beautiful thing if we listen.

Love and blessings,
Rebecca

“I Want My Skin To Look More Youthful!" PLUS! "How Can I Look More French!”

February 11, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

WOW! Two Questions In One! I love it!

Let's just dive right in!

Just a few (actually a lot) of my personal lifeisum's and TIPS for your questions!:

First, you are truly beautiful at any age so don't try to look 20 at 50+. (You know what I mean).

Work at being happy in your own skin. By working at this, you will always be able to make yourself look better and feel better...I really mean this. It's amazing what a little lipstick or walk around the block can do for your mental state of mind!

Have a daily routine! Get-up every morning (even if you are working from home),
brush your teeth, shower, wash your face and comb your hair.

Mom always said, take a shower or bath in the evening to wash off the day and shower or bath in the morning to wash off the night. Plus, you will be healthier and less sluggish during the day if you do. New day, new you!

Stretch, walk, yoga, or whatever you resonate with for movement and oxygen.

Pull your clothes together (pj's are not day clothing;)).

Eat some fresh, 'live' food and get on with your day!

Find YOUR own uniqueness and own it!

Stop 'over' looking around at other women wishing and hoping you had their amazing... (fill in the blank). This is hard on your mind and takes up a lot of negative head space. Yes, it does take a lot of mental work to not only be aware that we are doing this, but to also change the habit.

Turn off the Kardashian's, you said you wanted to be more French!

Don't follow someone else's standards. "That's like chasing a rabbit down a rabbit hole" or another way to say it is, "you will never catch that carrot!"

Healthy Inside and Out!:

1. Natural, fresh, botanical skin care products twice a day for healthy, youthful, less problematic skin. As my Irish grandmother would say, (insert Irish accent!) "Dr. Lucy is your man!".

Again, Dr. Lucy fresh, natural, French style skin care for more youthful skin. It will nourish, protect, calm, plump, revitalize and regenerate...everyday and night!

2. 1-2% natural Glycolic Acid mask once a week to remove dead skin cells (No drying peels).

3. Organic foods: Fruits, veggies, protein (fewer chemicals is a good thing).

3. Limit sugar and caffeine (I'm not talking about being a monk).

4. Lots of spring water (Love Crystal Geyser!).

5. Whole food supplements (If the bottle reads in ‘IU’s’ then it is not a whole food supplement).

6. Best kept beauty secret? 8+ hours of sleep a night and try to go to bed at the same time every night (body clock rhythms are very important).

7. Work on keeping your makeup more natural looking, same with your hair.

8. Classic Clothing (Check out some French sites).

9. Last but certainly not least, relax and go live your life!

Love and Blessings,
Rebecca

My Personal Olympic Games Story!

February 5, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

(Plus! Don't Miss The Valentine's Day Special at the Bottom of the Page!)

I decide since the Olympics have started, I would repost my Olympic experience for you. Less turmoil, more freedom and safety back in the day, but I'm sure you are aware of this.

ANYWAY! Let's go down happy memory lane together!

In 1983 when I was just a very young newlywed, I had the amazing opportunity to accompany my husband who is a Chiropractor and Naturopath doctor to Italy.

But Wait! Let me back this up and tell you the story from the beginning.

In 1983 George received a phone call from one of his chiropractic friends who knew of an opportunity to practice in Italy and thought he might want to apply for the position in a famous Medical Orthopedic Sports Medicine Clinic in Pisa, Italy. They were good friends and since he knew George had extensive training in sports medicine, traveling with the Broadway shows like A Chorus Line, Dancin, Ain’t Misbehavin, the San Francisco Ballet, Portland Meadows Racetrack jockeys, etc. he thought this opportunity might be a good fit.

Long story short, he got the position in the Orthopedic Sports Medicine Clinic and off we flew!

Doc as we call him!

Doc was not only a hit with the young and old, but also the athletes. You see, CONI, the National Italian Olympic Center, is located in Tirrenia about 20 minutes from the Pisa clinic.

First the athletes came, and then the coaches who saw how their athletes were training better. They wanted to find out about this American Chiropractor practicing in Italy.

He was invited to come for a “trial practice run” at the Olympic training facility, where he treated world-class athletes from all over the world and all fields. Baseball, basketball, soccer, rugby and of course track and field.

By the summertime, there was a consensus among the coaches and athletes that Doc should have a position on the medical staff of the Italian Olympic Team which was exciting. Viva Italia!

What does this story have to do with skin care you ask?

A lot!

You all pretty much know my story. I have sensitive skin issues and I have to keep them in-check while I travel.

My mom and grandmothers taught me a lot about taking care of my skin naturally, but once I started meeting different women from different countries all over the world, I got an even bigger picture of the importance of natural skin care products that were made with organic and natural ingredients and that they had to be formulated together in a specific order for ultimate effectiveness.

One day, shortly after I arrived in Italy, I ran out of my moisturizer. Remember I was very young and flew by the seat of my pants a bit, still sometimes do! This is a very free and fun way to live, but not so fun when you don't plan far enough ahead with your skin care products!

Sooo...

I started looking in the shops and since my Italian was far from perfect, actually almost non-existent at this point, I got frustrated and would go back to our apartment trying to figure out what to do about protecting my skin in the extremely hot, Italian summer sun. We were on the "Italian Riviera" in Tirrenia a lot!

Panic setting in!

I frantically looked through all my boxes and bags, looking for something that would work until I got better acquainted with Pisa and some of the women in my area.

Bingo!

I found an ointment in one of my bags called Weber’s Ointment that I used quite often for rashes and other kinds of skin issues. This company has since gone out of business, but the ingredient deck had lanolin (which I would never use now), minerals and some essential oils. I had never applied this ointment to my face, but it was worth a try and to my surprise it worked perfectly! Young skin is also more forgiving.

I'm Starting to get my "sea legs"...

Once I learned some of the language and was able to communicate with not only the Italian women, but also some French, German and Spanish women (yes, most of them spoke some English :)), I could ask questions about their skin care routine and products. They were so fascinating to talk to about natural skin care products, natural and organic ingredients, where to buy them and how to combine them to make my own cleanser, toner and moisturizer (Lovingly called "The Trinity" in skin care).

The two products that have my beloved olive oil in them and why!

Gentle Crème Cleanser and Luscious Rose Equalizer Hydrating Masque has organic Olive Fruit Oil!

Olive oil will always hold a special place in my heart because it was one of the first ingredients I used on my skin in Italy, not only for hydration, but also removing dirt, grime, and makeup!

What a dream come true.

A whirlwind, cosmopolitan lifestyle that brought me full circle in developing and selling Dr. Lucy Pure Natural Skin Care, a skin care company with a huge European history. Natural science, top of the line fresh, naturally potent ingredients that are formulated correctly. I really don't think there is a better way of producing high quality skin care.

P.S. "I am deeply grateful for all of you!"
In French: "Je vous suis profondément reconnaissante!" In Italian: Sono molto grato!

Did You Know That Citrus Can Boost Your Collagen?!

January 31, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Here is how it works!

Collagen is the "protein" that gives skin its structure, suppleness, and stretch. Unfortunately every year that goes by we lose collagen and that's when the skin starts to wrinkle and sag.

There is Hope! Vitamin C to the rescue!

Vitamin C not only improves collagen, but it also helps in producing it. 70% of all protein found in your skin is collagen. Collagen is responsible for maintaining the elasticity of your skin, keeping it looking young and fresh.

That's Not All!...

When vitamin C enters the body, it stimulates the immune system by enhancing the strength and protective qualities of cells and organisms.

Are You Aware That Your Body Doesn't Produce Vitamin C!

This antioxidant isn’t naturally made by the body, so it’s crucial to obtain it from vitamin C–rich foods, according to the Mayo Clinic. “Vitamin C can be found in a variety of foods, including red and green bell peppers, citrus fruits, kiwi, broccoli, tomatoes, and Brussels sprouts,” says Tamar Samuels, RDN, a cofounder of Culina Health in New York City.

In a review published in November 2017 in Nutrients, vitamin C was found to support the immune system by protecting against oxidative stress, aiding in microbial killing, and decreasing the potential for tissue damage.- Everyday Health

Vitamin C Can Help Protect Your Skin!

Taking Vitamin C can enhance the effectiveness of sunscreens applied to your skin for protection from the sun's harmful UV rays!

With love and blessings,
Rebecca

Does An Egg White Facial Mask Really Give You Better Skin?

January 21, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

I would say yes! Here is why!...

Skin care should be simple, yet marketing tells us it's actually complicated. Sorry, not buying that concept. We are natural beings, so skin care products should not only be natural and packed with nutrient dense ingredients, but also have the power and ability to support, balance, renew and hydrate your skin!

Egg whites are natural, nutrient dense, plus a skin care game changer!

Egg whites contains beneficial proteins that can increase skin hydration, destroy the bacteria that causes acne, and provide temporary anti-aging benefits, such as tightening the skin and plumping fine lines and wrinkles.

What are some of the nutrients in egg whites and how do they benefit my skin? I told you I love natural science!

Egg whites are made up of 10% protein, which can have an immense effect on our skin's ability to heal and regenerate new skin cells.

4 grams of protein - Immense effect on our skin's ability to heal and regenerate new skin cells.

5 milligrams of sodium - Helps to restore the protective skin barrier, plus helps it hold hydration.

1.3 micrograms of folate - Aids in cell regeneration and slows down the appearance of skin aging.

6.6 micrograms of selenium - Minimizes skin damage and inflammation.

2.3 milligrams of calcium - Regulates cell turnover by stimulating certain enzymes, giving you plumper skin.

3.6 milligrams of magnesium - Helps improve your skin's overall appearance.

4.9 milligrams of phosphorus‌ - Promotes the growth, maintenance, and repair of all tissues and cells.

53.8 milligrams of potassium - Supports the rapid growth of new cells.

P.S.

Click the video link below and watch Deborah Norvell's egg white mask that she swears by!

Plus! Here Is My Own Egg White Mask Recipe and Routine!

Cleanse face,

Obsessing Over Your Looks?

January 15, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Realize this: There is nothing wrong with the way you look. There is something wrong with the way you think you look.

Beauty is an attitude.

What you look like doesn’t bring you joy.

“Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are.”
Marilyn Monroe

You are not your face.

Work on your self confidence.

Confidence is really relevant when it comes to attractiveness.

“Low self-esteem is like driving through life with your hand-break on.”
Maxwell Maltz

Practice gratitude.

We think that if we look a certain way then we will feel valued and loved.

My experience is that we often project our feelings of inadequacy on one part of ourselves, and physical appearance is one of the most common parts to scapegoat.

“Why should we worry about what others think of us, do we have more confidence in their opinions than we do our own?”
Brigham Young

When you’re meeting someone, don’t ask “What will they think of me?”. Instead ask: “Do I actually like this person? What can I learn from them? Do I feel good in their presence?”

"In 1974, French psychoanalyst and Freud disciple Didier Anzieu first introduced the concept of “the skin-ego.” The skin-ego, he wrote, is a “psychic envelope” that defends the body—and the psyche—from external aggravators. Skin protects our insides both physically and in figures of speech: Don’t let it get under your skin; I’ve got thick skin." -The Walrus

Besides Twitter and Reddit, skin care is big on Instagram, too. There, showing off a sheet-masked face is a performative way of saying “I take really, really good care of myself.” Scrolling past a friend or influencer in a weird-looking mask triggers a series of escalating thoughts: “This mask is disturbing. This mask is goofy. This mask is captivating … maybe it will make me look as good as she does … I’ll take two.”-The Cut

New Year, New You?!

December 31, 2021 Rebecca Siegfried

January has been thought of as a good month to start making some positive changes. So, let's jump in!

Whew! Can you believe we just completed another cycle of 365's!

So, what does this mean to you and me?

For some of us it's pulling out our planners or notebooks and listing all the things we want to add or make changes to for the coming new year. Some don't want to do a deep-dive into resolutions at all, and trust me, I get this also!

To me it's about taking stock of the last year, looking at what went well and what I could have done better. Which good and not so good habits were formed and how I need to change the not so good ones.

Here are some ways I look at resolutions in general…

Stay positive.

Try not to make big/quick changes.

Change should be gradual (depending on what it is).

Build on smaller changes.

Allow a little room for error.

AND! Here are some interesting and thoughtful resolutions to consider...

Write down one thing you’re grateful for every night

Focus on a passion, not the way you look.

Work out to feel good and be healthier, not necessarily to be thinner, that will come as you eat better and exercise.

Drink more water.

Stop gossiping.

Do random acts of kindness.

Read a book a month.

Clear out the clutter.

Turn off your phone at least one night a week if not more.

Talk to yourself with kindness.

Don’t buy things you don’t need.

Clean out your car.

Take the stairs.

If you are still on social media, be kind.

Let go of grudges, you are only hurting yourself and bumming out the people around that care.

Stay in touch with the people who matter.

Travel somewhere without posting about it on social media.

Start cooking! There are sooo many cooking shows that will talk you through a recipe one step at a time.

Send handwritten letters.

Donate clothes you never wear.

Pay off your credit card every month...Love Dave Ramsey.:)

Avoid people who complain a lot. This is toxic and a real bad habit.

Remove negativity or anything that makes you feel lousy.

Wear a natural sunscreen.

Make your bed every morning. It leads to better productivity, a feeling of accomplishment, and pride. Plus, it lowers your stress level and improves your mood just to name a few. Mom always said, "Making your bed is like brushing your teeth or combing your hair". Always have, always will. ;)

Above all, pray more, get closer to God, worry less.

By The Way, Remember January 15th!...

We have to raise our prices a bit because of the economy and supply cost increases across the board.

But!

You can take advantage of the Dr. Lucy stores current prices until January 15th! Remember, stocking up is always a good thing!

P.S. Shipping and Handling will remain the same flat $9.00 whether you live in Washington State, New York City, Alaska or any place in-between!

I hope you have a wonderful New Year's Eve tonight. Try not to feel sad or have regrets. Life is a moving target and a learning experience. Just keep moving forward, learn from your mistakes and your positive wins!

With lots of love and blessings!

Tip! Warm Up Your Skin When Cleansing, Then Layer, Layer, Layer!

December 19, 2021 Rebecca Siegfried

Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, Paris France

When you wash your face with lukewarm water instead of cold, you raise the skin's temperature slightly, causing blood vessels and pores to dilate in an effort to cool you down. Space between the cells (where the hyaluronic acid lives) means there's a greater surface area for absorption, which helps your products to get in. Says dermatologist Heidi Waldorf.

PLUS, ingredients move through skin and interact with cells more quickly when the skin is warm. Says David Bank, a professor of dermatology at Columbia University/New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

P.S. Apply toner, serum, moisturizer and or face oil as soon as you get out of the shower or bathtub! If you wait, skin starts losing water vapor, which means less product absorption and drier skin!

Quick Skin Care Tips!

November 12, 2021 Rebecca Siegfried

Why You Need To Use a Face Serum and Moisturizer - Day and Night!

First, something that has been on my mind..

One more thing I would like to address before I dive into the main topic on this short missive...

Over the counter products or OTC's are convenient and will usually cost you a lot less, but not always. The problem with OTC products is they are usually made with chemicals in a big factory, or the natural ones are rancid with all their "plant base powers" oxidized and gone by the time they get to you. Plus, they have a very low percentage (pixie dusted) of active ingredients in them to actually help and protect your skin.

*Quality, natural skin care products like Dr. Lucy's not only work better to make those changes in your skin, but they are also more concentrated, so a little will go a long way!

Protect Your Skin Barrier!

The need to protect the skin's barrier (outer most layer) is so important in keeping your skin healthy and happy. I am proud to say that Dr. Lucy is at the forefront of the natural skin care field.

Let’s look at the needs and benefits of using a fresh, natural, potent, skin changing serum and moisturizer.

Do I really need a natural face serum?

Yes, from age 30+. Look, don’t you want the best skin you can possibly have as you get older? Then, use a natural (only) serum, preferably a gel, to not only boost our other products into working better, but to really ramp up those antioxidants, natural retinols, Vit. C, etc. for deeper penetration.

-Listen to Dr. Lawrence Samuels, Chief Dermatologist at St. Luke’s Hospital on the benefits of a face serum...

A serum is your go to product to improve the overall look of your complexion. Serums are formulated to keep the skin hydrated by putting a protective barrier between it and the outside. Serums have a lipid-soluble base that allows the active ingredients to actually penetrate into the epidermis. The active ingredients can bring antioxidants to the skin, restore cell growth and help decrease pore size. They are formulated to penetrate deep into the skin to deliver key ingredients by way of smaller molecules. Serums are used after your crème cleanser and toner, but before your moisturizers.

Can I use a face serum instead of a moisturizer?

The quick answer is No. Sorry, didn't mean to sound harsh.

Here’s why…

Serums are the "work horses" in skin care. They have very little humectants (emollients) in them, are lighter in texture and have smaller molecules to provide deeper penetration of concentrated nutrients and antioxidants into the skin layers. A serum also enhances the effects of the moisturizer.

A moisturizer has humectants (emollients) that a serum just doesn't have. Its main job is to hydrate, protect and seal in moisture for a more softer, supple, youthful looking skin.

P.S.

Food for thought. When you don't use a moisturizer, your skin's Ph becomes disrupted. This in-turn will cause dry, red, rashy, ashy, wrinkled, sagging skin, with more skin tags and lesions. Plus, your skin will not age well and you could possibly end up looking 5-10 years older than you are. I'm sure you feel the same, but you will never catch me not wearing a moisturizer...ever. :)

P.P.S.

I want to leave this on a positive note. I truly think you are beautiful inside and out. Have a good weekend and take care of you!
