Do You Need Botanical Hyaluronic Acid For Your Skin?

June 6, 2025 Rebecca Siegfried

Can It Really Help Your Skin?...

As we age moisture can drop off significantly, which makes the skin lose elasticity and expose the natural signs of aging on the skin. Topical, rather than injectable, Hyaluronic Acid (HA) plays a critical role in skin health with it's unique ability to hold in moisture. Hyaluronic Acid is also a "smart nutrient" as it can adjust its moisture absorption into your skin based on the humidity-relative to the season and climate.

According to the 1999 Journal of Investigative Technology, Hyaluronic Acid penetrates the skin so that the skin is able to absorb just the right amount of moisture. Unlike Collagen, HA is able to penetrate the skin's upper layers to improve and benefit the skin when applied topically. Elavonne, a skincare blog with over 20 years experience in developing researched based formulas to improve health says, "Hyaluronic Acid is a major component of skin, where it benefits tissue repair and protection." Hyaluronic Acid is IMPERATIVE to good skin health.

Is Botanical Hyaluronic Acid more safe and effective than the chemical version?

Yes! Clinical studies have shown it has a better effect on the skin than man-made Hyaluronic Acid in providing higher moisturizing, softening and overall improvement of skin complexion.

Where does Botanical Hyaluronic Acid come from?

Botanical hyaluronic acid is derived from a plant called Cassia Angustifolia (Senna alexandria).

Where does chemical Hyaluronic Acid come from?

Up until the late 1990’s, the only way of deriving Hyaluronic Acid was to get it from animal-based sources, such as rooster combs. No thank you!

Added Benefits of Botanical Hyaluronic Acid!

1. Deep Hydration
Botanical hyaluronic acid acts as a powerful humectant, drawing moisture from the environment and locking it into the skin. This results in lasting hydration that helps maintain a supple, well-moisturized complexion.

2. Natural Plumping Effect
By retaining water in the skin, it visibly plumps the surface—softening the look of fine lines and wrinkles for a smoother, more youthful appearance.

3. Enhanced Skin Elasticity
With consistent hydration, the skin becomes more elastic and resilient. This boost in firmness supports a tighter, more lifted look over time.

4. Strengthens Skin Barrier
It reinforces the skin’s natural protective barrier, helping defend against environmental stressors like pollution and UV rays, which can lead to premature aging.

5. Visible, Long-Term Results
Regular use promotes improvements in skin texture and tone, revealing a more radiant, even, and healthy-looking complexion.

* Dr. Lucy products were designed to detect your skin's needs and then act on those detections. What do you mean by "detect" your skin care needs? Naturally potent, botanical ingredients such as botanical hyaluronic acid, can actually sense the weather conditions, then adjust to your own personal environmental needs whether it be the lack of moisture in the air or humectants.

With Love and Blessings!

Are You Harming Your Skin For The Sake Of Beauty?

December 8, 2024 Rebecca Siegfried

Today's newsletter is all about protecting and healing your skin, keeping it away from invasive, dangerous procedures.

Your skin is a delicate organ that needs to be protected...

I promise you if you do your due diligence, be gentle with your skin, and use natural and organic skin care products that are potent enough on your skin like Dr. Lucy, you will have healthier, denser, calmer skin, more youthful skin.

Aging gracefully doesn't mean you give up on taking care of you or your skin, and don't let anyone tell you different!

People ask me daily...

If I have had Botox or any other kind of invasive procedures done to my face, I always answer no and I always will. Don't let "make believe" Hollywood or anyone else dictate how you feel about yourself and what you "should" look like.

To inject or not inject, that is the question...

Sorry not sorry, but injecting, cutting or tearing up your skin with the "latest fad" is not right, safe or ok, doesn't matter who told you it was a good thing to do.

Products I recommend!

Microcurrent, enzyme masks, Anma, Liftlab, top shelf, toxic free skin care products, eat well, drink lots of spring water and that's just to name a few. Why? Because they are healthy, safe, noninvasive, soothing, plus they all really work!

The French think of it this way!

There are no quick fixes to healthy skin. Nourishing and nurturing your skin with healthy, natural and organic skin care products and procedures like what we mentioned above, will not only strengthen your skin but will also help you to get that buoyant, firm and youthful glow you are looking for. Chemicals, injections and surgery are not your answer, but I really do respect whatever you feel you need to do for yourself.

With Love and Blessings!

The name Aloe vera derives from the Arabic word “Alloeh” meaning “shining bitter substance,” while “vera” in Latin means “true.” 2000 years ago, the Greek scientists regarded Aloe vera as the universal panacea.

"The Egyptians called Aloe “the plant of immortality.” Today, the Aloe vera plant has been used for various purposes in dermatology". -National Library of Medicine, v.53(4); 2008

9 Benefits for using Aloe based skin care products!...

1. "Aloe vera has antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that boost healing, moisturize the skin and prevent aging." - says, New York-based cosmetic dermatologist Michele Green, M.D.

2. Intensive skin moisturization!: - Aloe is made up of over 98% water, and not just any ole water, but SUPER mineral, vitamin, amino acid and antioxidant water! The vitamins, minerals and nutrients team up and work together to plunge deep into the skin layers for ultimate hydration.

3. Anti-aging effects: Aloe vera contains humectants that bind moisture to the skin and stimulate collagen production, boosting the elasticity of the skin resulting in fewer fine lines.

4. Treats dryness: Aloe vera gel absorbs easily into the skin to help combat dryness.

5. Relieves eczema: The moisturizing effects of aloe can help alleviate the dry, itchy skin associated with eczema.

6. Reduces inflammatory acne: Aloe gel may help treat inflammatory forms of acne, such as pustules and nodules.

7. Lightens dark spots and acne scars: Aloe vera gel helps stimulate collagen production in the skin, which reduces the appearance of scarring.

8. Reduces puffiness and dark circles: Aloe vera reduces overall facial inflammation and helps with the production of new skin cells.

9. Acts as a natural exfoliant: The salicylic acid in the Aloe plant helps to remove bad bacteria and dead skin cells from the facial skin.

Natural Spanx's For Your Skin?!

March 24, 2024 Rebecca Siegfried

We all know that dense skin is more youthful, uplifted skin, right?!

So, where do you start?

Whether it’s day or night, your skin undergoes stress from environmental pollutants, coffee runs, and dehydration. What your skin truly craves is a breath of fresh air and a long drink of moisture. Enter the Dr. Lucy Ultra Moisturizer. It doesn’t just make your skin softer, stronger, and more uplifted; it nourishes, protects, and revitalizes your skin, making it healthier overall. This natural, self-adjusting moisturizer provides round-the-clock nourishment and protection, perfect for your skin's needs throughout the day and night.

But what about over-the-counter moisturizers?

Over-the-counter products, or OTCs, may seem convenient and cost-effective, but they often fall short. Many are mass-produced in factories and contain chemicals, while the ones marketed as natural may have lost their potency due to oxidation by the time they reach you. Moreover, they typically contain a low percentage of active ingredients, rendering them less effective in making meaningful changes to your skin.

How do you heal the skin barrier ASAP?

A damaged skin barrier can usually heal itself within two weeks, depending on the extent of the damage. However, this process requires you to stop using all exfoliators, including acids and retinoids, and switch to gentle, soothing products instead. Quality natural skincare products like Dr. Lucy's are potent, concentrated, and active, ensuring that a little goes a long way in making positive changes to your skin.

Tip!

You can aid in repairing your skin's barrier by simplifying your skincare routine and opting for natural products with a suitable pH. Additionally, always choose a moisturizer containing humectants like botanical hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture and support the healing process.

With Love & Blessings,
Rebecca

Can Jojoba Oil Make You Look Younger?

January 19, 2024 Rebecca Siegfried

Yes! It can slow the signs of aging!

Let me tell you more...

Jojoba oil is getting a lot of attention these days!

More and more brands are adding it to their product lines, and even recent CelebrityPress citing organic jojoba oil as a beauty routine must-have. But what makes jojoba oil so effective, and why the infatuation with jojoba over other popular oils?

Celebrity endorsements aside, there are real, science-backed reasons jojoba oil is so popular.

One dermatologist speaks out on why jojoba oil lives up to the hype!

Hadley King, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist and clinical instructor of dermatology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Describes jojoba oil as lighter and less greasy than many other oils. Jojoba is also rich in vitamins B and E, as well as minerals like copper and zinc, and it has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties as well.

How jojoba oil works, and why it is such a loved skin oil!

As Dr. King explains it, jojoba oil is rich in natural fats that mimic those in the outer layer of the skin. What this means for you? It can help the skin keep the moisture in and heal itself. Pretty cool, huh?

It’s an emollient and an occlusive!

One of the best things about jojoba is its structure. While it is commonly referred to as an oil with all the typical oil characteristics, jojoba oil is technically a liquid wax.

Oil is an emollient, which means it helps soften and smooth skin by filling in any roughness caused by dryness.

Wax on the other hand, is an occlusive, meaning it helps to slow down the loss of moisture from your skin to the environment. When you use jojoba oil in your daily routine, you are adding moisture to your skin and making sure it stays all at the same time, helping you achieve that moisturized, hydrated, glowing skin you’re after.

Its molecular structure is similar to sebum (that’s a good thing, I promise!)

The wax/oil structure of jojoba oil closely mimics sebum, the oil that our skin naturally secretes. The point of moisturizing is to replenish and supplement oils that your skin may have lost or doesn’t produce enough of, so there is nothing better to moisturize with than an oil whose structure is similar to what our skin produces on its own.

All skin types!

Jojoba oil absorbs quickly without weighing skin down, meaning fast moisturization and a non-greasy finish. It’s molecular similarity to sebum also makes it great for oily and chaotic skin types, as it is received easily by the skin and restores moisture without lingering where you don’t want it or adding to the skin’s oiliness.

It’s full of antioxidants!

On top of all these great benefits, jojoba oil is known to be rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are wonderful for helping aging skin appear smooth and bright, and are also great for supporting skin in polluted environments (city dwellers, take note!).

Calms eczema and skin irritations!

Jojoba oil has been shown to also help eczema by calming and soothing inflammation of the skin.

More benefits to this miracle skin elixir!

While jojoba oil can boost collagen production, combat fine lines and wrinkles thanks to vitamin E, it can also improve elasticity and hydration of the skin. All I can say is, yes please!!

With love and blessings,
Rebecca

Why Should You Use a Moisturizer Twice a Day?

March 12, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried

In its most basic formula, moisturizers trap water at the surface of your skin to give your cells a chance to absorb that water before it evaporates. If you’re not moisturizing twice a day, your skin may be missing out on all of that essential hydration that keeps it looking beautiful. To help you unlock the skin of your dreams, here’s why you should use a daily facial moisturizer.

Skin is the Body’s Largest Organ

While you may have heard this before, your skin is your body’s largest organ. Your body depends on water to survive and keeps all the cells and tissues that make up your organs healthy. Your skin needs the same thing, and by moisturizing, you’re letting your skin absorb that water and stay hydrated.

Your Skin’s Ability To Retain Moisture Decreases

It’s an unfortunate truth, but as the body ages, its ability to retain moisture decreases. This is because sebaceous glands begin to produce less oil and hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid helps pull moisture up to the top layers of your skin, and oils help naturally trap that water. This, in large part, is why so many moisturizers contain hyaluronic acid. The occlusive agents in skincare creams act as your body’s natural oils to trap in the moisture that the hyaluronic acid draws up.

External Factors Damage Your Skin’s Protective Barrier

As you go about your day, environmental factors such as air pollution, dirt, and UV can beat down on your skin’s natural protective barrier. Because water and hydration are critical to cellular health, moisturizing helps bring strength back to your skin cells. You can also aid this hydration by drinking more water. The more water you have in your body, the easier it is for humectants, like hyaluronic acid, to draw up more water to your skin.

At the end of the day, you should use a daily face moisturizer because the result is healthier skin. By staying hydrated, your skin creates a smooth surface that reflects light, and boom! That’s how you achieve that enviable, beautiful glow.

P.S. Why is the Dr. Lucy Ultra Moisturizer named "Ultra"?

The skins natural barrier is strengthened, helping against environmental stress and pollutants, smoothes & soothes skin surface, skin feels firmer, looks healthier, visibly renewed, chocked full of nutrient dense vitamins and antioxidants, 2 oz. jar lasts two to three months!

The name "Ultra" is a perfect fit for this moisturizer!

At What Age Will My Skin Start to Dry Out?

July 1, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

25! Believe it or not! After the age of 25 the skin metabolism slows down!

5 Reasons Your Skin Becomes Drier With Age...

1. It is caused primarily by physiological alterations to the function of the skin. In this case, the skin becomes gradually drier and less elastic over time.

2. Barrier function is weakened, contributing to a loss of moisture.

3. The metabolic system within each cell slows.

4. Genetic predisposition and ethnicity.

5. Hormonal changes like the onset of menopause and drop in estrogen will also have an impact on your skin.

What do Some Dermatologist's Say About Aging Dry, Crepey Skin...

“Sunscreen and moisturizer are the two most effective anti-aging products,” says Kejal Shah, MD, dermatologist at Cooper Clinic Dermatology in Dallas. “Exposure to UV light speeds up the natural aging process of your skin, causing wrinkles and rough, blotchy uneven pigmentation.”

Is There Really Hope For Dry, Crepey Skin? YES!!

"Waldorf, MD, director of laser and cosmetic dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital, recommends products with glycerin or hyaluronic acid to prevent or improve the appearance of crepey skin. These ingredients pull in and hold moisture so your skin stays hydrated and looks plump."

"Good nutrition and adequate fluids are also helpful. Dehydration increases the risk of skin injury. Sometimes minor nutritional deficiencies can cause rashes, skin lesions, and other skin changes, even if you have no other symptoms. Plus keep skin moist with lotions and other moisturizers. Do not use soaps that are heavily perfumed." -MedlinePlus
