Do You Really Need a Natural Face Toner?

April 14, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried

Yes, a thousand times yes!

We all need positive, tried and true consistency when it comes to our skin care products. Without hoping they are working to improve our skin. Hoping they are rejuvenating and nourishing the cell structure. Hoping, hoping, hoping.

The Dr. Lucy mission is to give you fresh, naturally potent and correctly formulated skin care products to aid in improving, strengthening and maintaining your skin naturally. Now that is true reassurance for beautiful skin today and in the days to come.

Let's Talk Toner For A Minute...

Natural and organic toners like Dr. Lucy's are actually filled with ingredients that help hydrate, balance, calm, soothe, gently cleanse your pores and help to prevent breakouts.

"Don’t think of a toner as another unnecessary, time-consuming step. Your skin needs as much hydration and protection as possible for it to be in its healthiest state so it can look and feel its best." -Renee Rouleau

4 Toner Tips!

Skin cells are like fish and need water to live so be sure to use a toner immediately after cleansing. Wipe or spray the skin and then leave it damp.

A natural toner like Dr. Lucy's, will help take your skin care products to a whole new beneficial level.

*Misting your face throughout the day or while traveling aids not only in hydration, but also freshens your skin and makeup!

"By layering your toner multiple times, your skin gets to absorb more of the hydrating ingredients, ultimately giving you hydrated and healthy skin," explains Young-Ji Park, founder of Korean beauty skin-care brand Purpletale, to Allure

Should You Ever Use a Bar Of Soap?

April 10, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried

Should You Ever Use a Bar Of Soap?

Yes! On your reading glasses!

I truly believe that cleansing your skin with a bar of soap (even if it's a "facial" bar) is not healthy, but harmful to your skin. I never recommend anyone to use - and I certainly wouldn't use it on my own face.

Soap bars that are natural or not imbalance your skin's natural pH with all the binders and other chemical ingredients they have in them. These toxic ingredients cause your skin to go into an alkaline state which results in dryness, dehydration and instantly stripping your skin of moisture.

If you want to keep your skin balanced, hydrated, plump, glowing and yes clean, then this Frenchie will always recommend using a gentle, nutrient dense, cream cleanser like the Dr. Lucy Gentle Crème Cleanser.

Should You Cleanse Your Face Using Only Water Even If You Don’t Use Makeup?

Even if you haven't applied makeup, your skin still has bodily wastes and sebum caused by sweat and dirt remaining on your skin. Water alone can’t wash them off. So you’ll need to use a oil bases cleanser or oil based crème cleanser to aid in the gentle, deep pore cleansing process.

Tip!: You should always cleanse your face with a gentle crème, pH balanced cleanser morning and evening like the Dr. Lucy's Gentle Crème Cleanser, even if you haven't applied makeup.

“The cleanser you use is the most important part of your skin care routine. It is the start and end of your day, it simultaneously clears off the dirt and grime and preps your skin for your products, so if you’re using the wrong one, your other products just won’t be as effective.”- says, Aubrey Wallace of Annmarie

Fun!! A Skin Acid Test For You!

Answer these questions to find out where you fall on the pH spectrum.

1. How does your skin feel after cleansing?

a) Soft and smooth

b) Tight and dry

c) Still slightly oily or not thoroughly clean

2. How often do you moisturize your face?

a) At least morning and evening

b) Once a day

c) Never

3. Has your skin become sensitive to products you regularly use, including makeup and creams?

a) No, it feels normal, like always.

b) Once in a while

c) Yes. It seems like it reacts to everything I put on it lately.

4. How often does your skin have dry, flaky, rough patches?

a) Never

b) Sometimes

c) Usually

5. Do you notice that your skin looks duller and has more lines in the morning?

a) No

b) Yes, usually

c) It's a very rare occurrence.

6. Is your skin excessively oily and prone to breakouts (whereas it wasn't in the past)?

a) No

b) Occasionally

c) Yes

7. Does your skin often look red and feel irritated?

a) No

b) It stings only after applying products.

c) Yes

8. Does your skin look plump, moist, and dewy?

a) Almost always

b) Rarely

c) It's plump, but more greasy than dewy

If you answered mostly b's, your skin's pH is. . .
Too high. Your chronic dryness and wrinkling likely mean your acid mantle is being dismantled—you're too alkaline. With its protective lipids removed, your skin is falling prey to bacteria, UV rays, and harsh ingredients. Take a close look at how (and how often) you're cleansing, scrubbing, and hydrating. You need to make sure that your skin can ward off the damaging factors that are making it look older than it should.

If you answered mostly c's, your skin's pH is. . .
Too low. Your regular oiliness, breakouts, and sensitivity point to acid overload. Chances are, you're OD'ing on the peeling products (think acids) in an effort to sop up excess grease. And while this type of exfoliation can make for a healthy complexion, your skin is suffering from too much of a good thing. Your mission: Use products in moderation instead of abusing them (and your skin).

If you answered mostly a's, your skin's pH is. . .
Just right! Your skin (and its pH) live in a shiny, happy place not inhabited by premature aging and wrinkles. Having skin this good isn't an accident, so kudos to you for gold-star moisturizing and exfoliating, and using the right products. Stay on the same course and you'll continue to glow.

With Love and Blessings!

What Face Serum Are You Using Everyday?

March 31, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried

And More Importantly, Why?

If you’re looking to tackle specific skin issues that are giving you grief or want to give your skin a nutritional boost, face serums are the way to go. Because face serums utilize high-quality active ingredients, anyone can use them as a regular part of their skincare routine. Still, not everyone knows what face serums are or how they work. Read on to understand the benefits of face serums and learn more about why you should use face serums daily.

What Are Face Serums?

Face serum is a general term for a thin liquid or oil that gives your skin a high dose of active ingredients while also helping to moisturize. However, you should use face serums in tandem with your moisturizer to lock in the effects of the active ingredients.

Face serums can help you tackle specific skincare needs, so when choosing a face serum, keep in mind what your goal is for using them. And because of their versatility , anyone can use a face serum in their everyday routine. For example, if an uneven complexion isn’t an issue for you, you don’t have to worry about finding a face serum with high concentrations of glycolic acid. Or conversely, if you have dry skin, you may want to use a serum with high concentrations of hyaluronic acid to help moisture come to the upper layers of your skin. However, the great part about skin serums is that you can mix and match them based on your skin’s needs.

However, many people benefit most from using one new skincare item at a time to avoid overwhelming their skin with changes. Additionally, you shouldn’t use more than two serums per routine, with two serums during the day and two during the night as a good rule of thumb. You can also alternate which serums you use—just be sure to check that the products don’t share active ingredients or have ingredients that cancel each other out.

Face Serums Help Defend Your Skin

Many face serums come with large, concentrated quantities of essential vitamins that your skin needs. For example, it’s easy to find face serums with ingredients like vitamin C and E and acids such as ferulic acid. These ingredients can help mitigate the oxidative damage caused by UV rays and pollution. When your skin experiences prolonged periods of oxidative stress, you may notice texture changes in your skin. It’s correct to assume that the more your skin faces harsh light, dirt, and debris, the more prone to damage your skin becomes.

Face Serums Hydrate Your Skin

You may notice that a lot of your moisturizers and cleansers boast about their inclusion of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid encourages moisture to flow to the upper layers of the skin. When you put a moisturizer in the mix, the moisturizer locks in the water that the hyaluronic acid pulled up—that is how your skin maintains hydration.

Face Serums Can Help Smooth Skin Texture

Ingredients in your face serums can help hydrate and strengthen skin and smooth out the overall texture. Face serums with a high concentration of vitamin C can even out skin texture by helping to tone, brighten, and support skin. . Smoothing face serums can also include hyaluronic acid, the humectant that draws out water, to plump up the skin.

Face Serums Can Even Skin Tone

Face serums brighten the skin in the same way that face serums smooth overall skin texture and promote the appearance of all around healthier skin . Using serums with the right actives can help support overall skin rejuvenation, making room for fresh, bright skin with a more even appearance.

Ultimately, you should use a face serum daily to make a concentrated effort as you tackle your skin’s needs rather than broadly treating them with just a cleanser and moisturizer.

With Love and Blessings!

What? You Want Me To Put Acid On My Face?!

March 26, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried

Acids and skincare don’t exactly sound like a good pair...

However, acids encompass some of our favorite ingredients–things like Hyaluronic Acid (preferably Botanical), Glycolic Acid, and even Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)! Let’s delve in to how we can use them.

First of all, an important note:

There are two different types of acids used in skincare; exfoliating acids and fatty acids. When used properly in your skincare routine you can see the benefits in the way your skin looks and feels.

Below, we have listed some of the most common types of exfoliating acids used in skincare...

Exfoliating Acids
Exfoliating acids help skin to look its best by removing dead skin cells and revealing a fresh complexion.

Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid is the smallest and most highly soluble of the alpha hydroxy acids making it especially efficacious in exfoliants and chemical peels. It reduces cell adhesion in the uppermost layer of the epidermis, promoting exfoliation of dead skin and cell replacement contributing to a smoother brighter complexion.

Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring polymer found in connective, neural, and epithelial tissue in both animals and humans. Hyaluronic acid can hold about 1,000 times its weight in water. Because of its ability to hold water, HA is an easy choice when looking for an ingredient that will hold moisture when applied to the skin. As always and forever, we recommend botanical HA only!

Lactic Acid
Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid manufactured by fermentation of non-GMO corn derived carbohydrates. Lactic acid is used in the formulation of cleansers, splashes, astringents, and moisturizers to enhance the appearance of dry or mature skin. Lactates are also effective humectants and buffering agents in soaps and wipes due to their excellent ability to attract and hold moisture within the skin.

Citric Acid
Naturally occurring citric acid is a member of the alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) group and in skin care products it is often used as an ingredient in exfoliants and chemical peels, Most often citric acid is used to adjust the pH in personal care products such as lotions, cremes, shampoos, etc.

Fatty acids
Are critical building blocks in helping skin to appear hydrated, plump, and more youthful. Essential fatty acids are not produced by the body naturally so they must be eaten or applied directly to the skin.

Myristic Acid
Myristic acid is a non-toxic fatty acid that occurs naturally in some foods, such as animal fats and most vegetables. Nutmeg, palm oil, and coconut oil contain relatively high levels of myristic acid. The saturated fatty acid myristic acid has 14 carbon atoms. Myristic acid is used as a cleansing, surfactant and opacifying agent in cosmetics and personal care products.

Stearic Acid
Stearic acid is a vegetable (castor) derivative used to stiffen and stabilize lotions and cremes. Stearic acid occurs naturally in the human body and vegetable fats.

P.S. So the next time you reach for a pretty bottle of shampoo or face & body care products, look at the ingredient deck and think about which kind of "acid" you are wanting on your skin and what is it's main purpose.

P.P.S. You can always email us your questions here at Dr. Lucy for a quick response and some helpful advice!

Why Should You Use a Moisturizer Twice a Day?

March 12, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried

In its most basic formula, moisturizers trap water at the surface of your skin to give your cells a chance to absorb that water before it evaporates. If you’re not moisturizing twice a day, your skin may be missing out on all of that essential hydration that keeps it looking beautiful. To help you unlock the skin of your dreams, here’s why you should use a daily facial moisturizer.

Skin is the Body’s Largest Organ

While you may have heard this before, your skin is your body’s largest organ. Your body depends on water to survive and keeps all the cells and tissues that make up your organs healthy. Your skin needs the same thing, and by moisturizing, you’re letting your skin absorb that water and stay hydrated.

Your Skin’s Ability To Retain Moisture Decreases

It’s an unfortunate truth, but as the body ages, its ability to retain moisture decreases. This is because sebaceous glands begin to produce less oil and hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid helps pull moisture up to the top layers of your skin, and oils help naturally trap that water. This, in large part, is why so many moisturizers contain hyaluronic acid. The occlusive agents in skincare creams act as your body’s natural oils to trap in the moisture that the hyaluronic acid draws up.

External Factors Damage Your Skin’s Protective Barrier

As you go about your day, environmental factors such as air pollution, dirt, and UV can beat down on your skin’s natural protective barrier. Because water and hydration are critical to cellular health, moisturizing helps bring strength back to your skin cells. You can also aid this hydration by drinking more water. The more water you have in your body, the easier it is for humectants, like hyaluronic acid, to draw up more water to your skin.

At the end of the day, you should use a daily face moisturizer because the result is healthier skin. By staying hydrated, your skin creates a smooth surface that reflects light, and boom! That’s how you achieve that enviable, beautiful glow.

P.S. Why is the Dr. Lucy Ultra Moisturizer named "Ultra"?

The skins natural barrier is strengthened, helping against environmental stress and pollutants, smoothes & soothes skin surface, skin feels firmer, looks healthier, visibly renewed, chocked full of nutrient dense vitamins and antioxidants, 2 oz. jar lasts two to three months!

The name "Ultra" is a perfect fit for this moisturizer!

With Love & Blessings!

Is Youthful Skin More Than Skin Deep?

February 24, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried
Anma facial tool

100% YES!!

We can get stuck on the idea that all we need are good skin care products to look youthful and fresh because that's all we hear. Of course you need the best, natural products for your skin, that's a given. But taking care of our skin is multidimensional and includes going beyond the surface, needing us to use a deeper dive for that youthful look! Please read on and don't miss the Anma video link!

I felt this particular newsletter on this topic was appropriate to repost.

A fun story with a Delta flight attendant on my way to two meetings in Los Angeles.

A couple of Fridays ago, I had to fly to LA for two meetings and as you know I always take some of the Dr. Lucy Sample Kits with me to hand out to the flight attendants. As you also know, flying is so hard on the skin and body, but fortunately some of the Dr. Lucy products contain botanical hyaluronic acid which holds 1,000 times its weight in moisture. The attendants always have a million questions and are always so excited to receive their gifts.

Ok, back to my story about the Delta flight attendant. Michelle was a very pretty, tall, happy and very spunky lady that was the lead attendant in first class. I got up to use the restroom and had to wait because it was occupied, so of course I started a conversation with her. Michelle asked me if I was a flight attendant and after I said "no," the conversation transitioned into talking about Dr. Lucy! We were laughing and talking and every time I told her I better sit down she would grab my arm and say, "No, it's alright, you can stay here!"

Talking about staying younger...

We went from talking all about Dr. Lucy, to me explaining to her that looking and staying younger was an inside/outside job and so much more than just putting some cream on your face. She asked me what I would recommend for crepey skin and I told her about "dry brushing," which in my opinion actually works so much better than sugar or salt scrubs. I told her dry brushing works to remove the dead skin cells, which reveals a more youthful skin that looks airbrushed! Plus, it changes your skins texture including tightening your skin and reducing cellulite, but the best thing of all is you look and feel healthier! Dry brush everyday before you shower or take a bath, google how to dry brush or see photo below and click on the video for a basic routine, and then apply your toner to your body (yes, the benefits are amazing), next serum and a natural body oil or natural oil based moisturizer (a lot of body lotions just do not have enough good oils to make changes to your skin) because a lot of crepey skin is dehydrated skin.

We talked about micro current and if it really did work and was it safe...

That is when I told her I have had a micro current practice for ten years and told her about the safety of micro current, how it works, how it is natural, how the body recognizes it as a good wave and that is similar to the same energy within our own bodies. We also talked about the Anma tool and its long lasting benefits. By the time we ended our conversation she had enough information about all these different safe, beneficial tools and techniques that she could use and get life long positive results!

More flights, more stories!

With Love and Blessings!

New and Improved! Rouge Revitalizing Face Oil Special!

February 17, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried
Rouge Revitalizing Face Oil

What does Dr. Lucy’s proprietary face oils with Rosehip seed oil, the Duchess of Cambridge, Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham and model Miranda Kerr all have in common? Reportedly, they use rosehip seed oil to keep their skin smooth and blemish-free.- Dr. Axe DNM DC CNS

CELL REGENERATION
Specifically, rose hip seed oil aids in regeneration, providing anti-aging benefits. It is particularly high in vitamin C, making it one of the richest plant sources for the skin. This is another reason why rosehip seed oil is a great choice. Says Dr. Axe

SKIN AGING REVERSED
Because it is high in free-radical fighting antioxidants, rosehip seed oil can be used to reverse skin aging. Fighting environmental pollutants and protecting the skin from the suns damaging affects.

SKIN TEXTURE IMPROVED
As a natural source of the antioxidant lycopene, rosehip seed oil improves the texture of skin and protects against premature aging.

It contains beta-carotene to reduce the appearance of skin aging by eliminating free-radical damage.

VITAMIN C
*Rosehip seed oil is also high in vitamin C, and is a natural skin anti-aging agent. Vitamin C is needed to produce collagen, a naturally occurring protein found in the body that supports elasticity and flexibility of the skin.

Vitamin C increases the synthesis of collagen. In other words, it’s the fuel needed to start the collagen-synthesis engine. Vitamin C is responsible for inducing these reactions.

VITAMIN A
Rosehip seed oil also contains vitamin A, which is essential for healthy skin and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

HELPS WITH SUN DAMAGE
One reason why skin wrinkles and marks appear is because of over-exposure to the sun – it is one of the top 10 causes of premature aging of your face. The sun’s UV rays may also cause spots on the face that result in wrinkles or discoloration. The antioxidants in rosehip seed oil seem to repair damages while the essential fatty acid content improves skin tone, pigmentation and texture.

Plus! being in the sun too long can also damage collagen production. Collagen levels drop as you age. But the vitamin C content in rosehip seed oil can help restore collagen production to normal. - Healthy and Natural World, Jenny Hills, Medical Writer and Researcher

Who Wants Beautiful Skin Plus a Little LOVE?!

February 10, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried

February is the Perfect month for both! Read on!

There are so many different kinds of love!
Agape — Unconditional Love. First, we have agape love. ...
Eros — Romantic Love. ...
Philia — Affectionate Love. ...
Philautia — Self-love. ...
Storge — Familiar Love. ...
Pragma — Enduring Love. ...
Ludus — Playful Love. ...
Mania — Obsessive Love.

Whew! Lot's of love here! But what I want to talk about Philautia Love, this is self-love. I'm not talking about the crazy, selfish love, I'm talking about taking care of and respecting your body kind of love.

If you take care of your house (your body) it will stay strong well into your adult years and beyond.

One way of showing love and respect for your body, is by taking care of your skin!

Let's talk about natural masques and why I only recommend natural, non-drying masques. Plus it doesn't matter what your skin type is!

I know, I can hear you from here saying, "are you crazy!" Lol! Probably, but not about skin care and definitely not about what kind of masque to use. I will also breakdown why you should be using a natural, hydrating masque, plus some of their benefits.

A masque is or should be a nutrient dense barrier you apply to your skin once or twice a week. Should also be high in antioxidants for calming inflammation, firming, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, softening and diminishing scar tissue. Plus a masque that will aid in repairing the dreaded "sun damaged" skin. Damage that becomes more noticeable with each passing birthday. Remember your skin is having those birthday celebrations also!

Why a drying, peeling or chemical masque is not your friend! Please keep reading...

"I have learned the hard way! I am not a big fan of drying, peeling or chemical masques. Why? I have sensitive skin and am prone to Rosacea. So with that said I can tell you what can possibly happen if you use a harsher kind of masque, whether you have "sensitive, dry, normal or oily skin issues.

Our skin is a natural organ that needs to be cleansed, hydrated and protected everyday. Drying, peeling and chemical masques have a tendency to disrupt the surface layer of the skin by pulling and tearing the skin and cell structure, some do this more than others. These type of masques can also cause a loss of elasticity, promote inflammation, irritations, uneven skin-tone and very possibly sagging skin!"

Let’s breakdown some myths about the types of skin we might have, and to better understand why using a natural hydrating masques is best.

Sensitive skin can be oily, dry and seem more balanced and normal when you calm the inflammation and get it under control. Drying, peeling, and chemical masques have the potential to disturb your skin and cause more inflammation and irritation.

Dry skin is lacking good oils from the inside and on the outside. Therefore, a drying, peeling, chemical masque could just make this condition worse and cause a vicious, negative skin cycle.

Normal skin can seem balanced if you are meaning "normal" as being not too sensitive, dry or oily. With that said, even "normal" skin can become disturbed, have dry patches, inflammation, and breakouts. As you can see, the word "normal" is extremely relative.

Oily skin is just the sebaceous glands giving out a bit too much sebum. I have observed through the years as a Microcurrent technician, and developer of Dr. Lucy, how many clients with oily skin have used these chemical or natural or clay drying masques. They have noticed how their skin actually becomes more oily after using them.

So again, these drying masques are not your friend. Your goal is to balance your oil production and though it may sound counterintuitive a drying, peeling masque will dry your skin out and cause your glands to work overtime producing even more oil.

A hydrating masque like Dr. Lucy's is chocked full of good oils!

Good oils in a hydrating masque, help to "unclogged" old sebum (old skin oil) out of your pores and off your skin, leaving it hydrated and more youthful looking.

What does this mean?

Hydrating masques=no disturbance to your skin! The skin’s mantle (protective layer) remains in more of a Ph balance. This also means that all of those antioxidants and nutrient dense ingredients will dive deeper into the skin's top layer to nourish and help balance your oil production. Amen to that!

Fun Facts!

History Of The Face Masques:

The first thick, creamy facial mask had honey as a main ingredient and was invented in England during the 18th century by Madame Rowley. Did you know honey was and still is a very popular hydrating and healing masque!

P.S. Marketing is how products get into the customers (your/my) hands. Investigate before you buy and always ask why. I love the saying, “Trust But Verify.” I personally always say, “Verify First and Maybe Trust.” Intuition can be a beautiful thing if we listen.

Love and blessings,
Rebecca

Are You Loving Your Anti-aging Skin Care?

January 20, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried
Jojoba oil benefits

Check out Dr. Lucy's skin care Valentine's Day Special with jojoba oil!

Here is just one Dr. Lucy client who loves her products with jojoba oil!

“Star Rating 5 out of 5 stars Description:

I have used many all-natural skin care products over the years but this is hands down the very best skin care products I've ever used! So very happy with this amazing skin care line! Renee'“

Jojoba oil is getting a lot of attention these days!

More and more brands are adding it to their product lines, and even recent celebrity press citing organic jojoba oil as a beauty routine must-have. But what makes jojoba oil so effective, and why the infatuation with jojoba over other popular oils? Even more pressing, can your skin get the same benefits from any jojoba oil, or does the type of jojoba you choose matter?

Board-certified dermatologist Hadley King, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist and clinical instructor of dermatology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Describes jojoba oil as lighter and less greasy than many other oils. Jojoba is also rich in vitamins B and E, as well as minerals like copper and zinc, and it has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties as well.

How jojoba oil works, and why I love it!

Celebrity endorsements aside, there are real, science-backed reasons jojoba oil is so popular. Here’s why jojoba oil lives up to the hype!

It’s an emollient and an occlusive!

One of the best things about jojoba is its structure. While it is commonly referred to as an oil with all the typical oil characteristics, jojoba oil is technically a liquid wax. This dual structure yields the benefits of both an oil and a wax every time jojoba is applied to the skin. But what does that actually mean for yourself and your customers seeking out dewy, hydrated skin? Oil is an emollient, which means it helps soften and smooth skin by filling in any roughness caused by dryness. Wax, on the other hand, is an occlusive, meaning it helps delay the loss of moisture from your skin to the environment. When you use jojoba oil in your daily routine, you are adding moisture to your skin and making sure it stays put in the same step, helping you achieve that moisturized, glowing skin you’re after.

Its molecular structure is similar to sebum (that’s a good thing, I promise!).

The wax/oil structure of jojoba oil closely mimics sebum, the oil that our skin naturally secretes. The point of moisturizing is to replenish and supplement oils that your skin may have lost or doesn’t produce enough of, so there is nothing better to moisturize with than an oil whose structure is similar to what our skin produces on its own. This allows jojoba oil to absorb quickly without weighing skin down, meaning fast moisturization and a non-greasy finish. It’s molecular similarity to sebum also makes it great for oily and chaotic skin types, as it is received easily by the skin and restores moisture without lingering where you don’t want it or adding to the skin’s oiliness.

It’s full of antioxidants!

On top of all these great benefits, jojoba oil is known to be rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are wonderful for helping aging skin appear smooth and bright, and are also great for supporting skin in polluted environments (city dwellers, take note!).

Jojoba oil benefits!

It helps with skin hydration and moisturizing!

Dr. King says jojoba oil is most beneficial for dry and dehydrated skin types, but it's one of those ingredients that can be helpful for all skin types, too, because everyone could use hydration and moisture, FYI.

Helps the skin retain moisture!

As Dr. King explains it, jojoba oil is rich in natural fats that mimic those in the outer layer of the skin. What this means for you? It can help the skin keep the moisture in and heal itself. Pretty cool, huh?

Calms eczema!

Because of all the benefits we've talk about so far, Dr. King says it could help with calming inflammation the skin, and jojoba oil has been shown to help soothe eczema.

Soothes the scalp and smooths flyways!

I know we're talking about the skin benefits, but your scalp is part of that. Dr. Ife Rodney, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist, dermatopathologist, and founding director of Eternal Dermatology + Aesthetics in Fulton, MD. Says its sebum-like qualities make jojoba oil a great oil for curly hair. "People with curly hair types tend to have less natural sebum production on the scalp, leading to frizzy hair that easily dries out," she says.

Improves acne!

Board-certified dermatologist Michele Green, MD, is a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist, previously told Cosmo that jojoba oil could even be a great option for those who are acne-prone. This is all thanks to the fact that jojoba oil has anti-inflammatory properties, it's non-comedogenic, and it could help with the skin barrier. -By Brooke Shunatona, Cosmopolitan, April 15, 2023

Is Your Face Oil Too Thick and Greasy?

January 13, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried

f you’re new to face oils, you might envision a thick or greasy texture, but the best ones like Dr. Lucy's Rouge Revitalizing Proprietary Blend Face Oil isn't that.

The main topic of conversation that I would like to talk about today is the Organic Rosehip Seed Oil that has lovingly been named, "natural retinol alternative" because of it's high Vitamin A, C and Beta-carotene content.

Wait a minute!!

So what is the difference between Retinol and Retinoid? Here is a simple explanation. A Retinol is not as strong or chemical based like a Retinoid. A Retinol can be in a natural form such as the Organic Rosehip Seed Oil I am talking about and the one I will always recommend. A Retinoid is a chemical, much more powerful and you would need a prescription to get it. Like I have said many times, applying products like Retinoids to your skin will thin the skin, make you look older in the long run, plus can wreak havoc on your hormonal system. You can look at this natural Retinol explanation this way. Think of a bicycle wheel that has ten spokes, that is your Retinol with all the parts working together so that the wheel functions properly. Now think of that wheel with only one spoke, that is like Retinoids, the wheel will not function properly, in fact it will fall apart and breakdown. Whether it is the food we eat or the products we put on our skin, the whole, natural form will always benefit the body and help to turn over youthful, strong cells.

I'm thrilled to say some of the Dr. Lucy products are on that new wave of natural Retinols!

I know, you are probably wondering what I am talking about, well let me explain. As you can see below a photo of the Dr. Lucy "Rouge" Revitalizing Proprietary Blend Face Oil. This magic wand is loaded with light weight, Organic Rosehip Seed Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Frankincense, Rose Otto (Rose Damascena) plus Rose and Clear Quartz to nourish, revitalize and boost collagen formation just to name a few.

Just a quick note about heavier oils...

"It is a myth that people with oily skin can't use face oils," says dermatologist Dr. Joshua Zeichner, MD. But, that doesn't mean you can use just any oil. For example, he says that those with oily skin will want to avoid heavier oils like olive or avocado, because they're rich in oleic acid which can lead to breakouts. He recommends rosehip oil because it's a lot more lightweight.

8 Rose Hip Seed Oil BENEFITS!...

Benefits of not only the Organic Rosehip Seed Oil, but the amazing Rouge Revitalizing Proprietary Blend Face Oil and all her very potent, synergistic and special other ingredients.

1. Helps boost collagen formation and cell regeneration which is essential for skin elasticity and firmness.

2. The essential fatty acids help keep cell walls strong so that they don't lose water.

3. Specific for anti-aging.

4. Helps reduce inflammation and calm irritation resulting from rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis.

5. Brightens skin.

6. Promotes healing.

7. Help reduce dullness and leaving you with glowing, vibrant skin.

8. Helps reduce hyperpigmentation which can result from a number of factors, including:
Sun exposure, Hormonal changes and certain medications.

Fun Fact: The Rosehip Seed Oil that is in Rouge Revitalizing Proprietary Blend Face Oil is dark orange/red in color, meaning the darker the color (top shelf so to speak) the less processed and the more powerful it is! What does that mean for you? Bright, firm, soft, even skin tone, boosted collagen formation and healthier skin cell turnover!

P.S. I highly recommend splurging a little on Rouge, she is a gem! It will last you forever because you just need a little bit. Plus the steel roller ball feels so good on your skin and helps Rouge glide on effortlessly!

P.P.S. Rouge Revitalizing Proprietary Blend Face Oil is now in the Dr. Lucy Sample Kit!
I have always said and many of you know, that years ago the Dr. Lucy products really took off because of the Sample Kit! This kit has honestly started its own cult following. Once you tried the Sample Kit, whether you purchased it yourself or received it as a gift, you realized you purchased high quality, fresh, natural skin care products that you could believe in. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I/we look forward to another year of making you and your skin happy! Just remember I/we love hearing from you, it actually makes our day. If you have questions or comments we are always here to serve you.

With Love and Blessings!

5 Nutritionist Tips For Making a New Year’s Resolution That Sticks!

January 8, 2023 Rebecca Siegfried

Set the right goals

Here are 5 realistic nutrition-based goals says Reena Panjwani, registered dietitian-nutritionist at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee

Increase your vegetable intake!

Most of us don’t eat enough vegetables, so start small. If you’re not eating many vegetables, focus on adding 1 or 2 more servings a day. Throw a handful of spinach into pasta, or add peppers and onions to your scrambled eggs. You don’t have to start eating salad for every meal to get a big nutritional benefit.

Switch from refined, white grains to whole grain

Choosing whole grain pasta, bread or crackers can increase fiber, which is important for digestive health.

Cook at home 1 more night a week

We all get in the habit of relying on processed or packaged foods because they’re easier to throw together at the end of a long day. Try to cook just one more night a week with fresh ingredients. It’s a great way to cut down on hidden sodium and extra calories.

Cut down on sugary drinks

Tennessee is second only to Mississippi in soda consumption, and more than 40% of us drink non-diet soda daily. Cutting down on that is an easy way to remove empty calories, and the same is true of juice, which many people forget about. Start by trying to cut out 3 sugary drinks per week, or drink one extra glass of water per day. Most of us don’t drink enough water, and hydration is key for metabolism to function properly.

Go meatless 1 day a week

Swap the meat in one or two meals for beans, lentils or organic tofu, for example, which are great, affordable sources of protein.

Did I Overwork My Skin?!

December 16, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Does this sound familiar? You're excited about discovering high performance products and advanced technology you can use at home. You start the skincare journey only to look in the mirror two weeks later and your face looks worse instead of better.

Don't throw out your products and devices. Simply stop and consider you may have overworked your skin in the zeal to do a good job. Listen to what Christine Byer, Master Esthetician has to say in her article, "Did I Overwork My Skin?".

Here's a list of questions to determine if your skin is overworked.

Is it possible your skin is dehydrated?

Excess water loss from the skin can result from: heat, exercise, burns, or skin diseases according to a report by the National Library of Medicine. Remember, when you are using high performance skincare and advanced technology on the skin, you are adding energy and exercise to the skin and underlying fascia and muscle. Dehydrated skin can look dull, feel tight, be overly sensitive, take on a shiny but flaky nature, have dark undereye circles or experience an increase in fine lines. To avoid dehydrating the skin, drink a glass of water prior to using devices, use plenty of conducting gel, and only use devices as directed.

Are you overusing devices?

It's not uncommon to get excited about the possibilities advanced technology can do for anti-aging. It might seem that if a little is helpful, a lot would work wonders. More is not always better in skincare. Consistency is the goal. New collagen growth can take anywhere from four to 12 weeks. It's important to create a consistent routine which balances the use of high performances products and advanced technology, without overdoing it.

Have you started too many new products at once?

It's important to give skin a chance to adjust to new products and devices. A good rule of thumb is to add one new product or device at a time if skin feels overworked. Use it for a week to allow the skin to adjust. This will also help to tell if a product isn't right for your skin, or which combination of products do not work for you.

Remember, there is no such thing as one size fits all skincare.

Shocking your skin with too much at once can show up as white bumps, red bumps, pimples forming under the skin (cysts), blotchy, red patches, dry patches, and clogged pores to name a few.

What lifestyle choices are impacting the health of your skin?

We're investing in the care of our skin but if we don't also make supportive lifestyle choices, we can sabotage our results. Is your diet deficient in nutrition? Do you consume excess caffeine or alcohol? What is your stress level? Are you using low quality makeup? And, is your routine consistent? Our bodies will tells us when something is out of balance. We just have to pay attention and make some necessary adjustments.

How to Reverse Overworked Skin...

The biggest thing to do is, don't panic. After making a few adjustments right for you, your skin will begin to make progress and you'll get results from your investment in self-care with quality skincare products and devices.

Stay on this modified routine for at least one week, longer if needed. You're looking for signs your skin is recovering by seeing less of the overworked symptoms.

Increase your water intake and reduce caffeine and alcohol consumption. Eat a diet high in nutrition with less processed food or fad diets which leave the body lacking in nutrition.
Simplify your routine by starting over with the basics. Choose your gentlest pH balanced cleanser, one serum daily, and one moisturizer. Sunscreen if you're going to be outdoors.
Use LED only 3 times a week with a day of rest in between.
When your skin starts to recover, add only one new product or device at a time.
Incorporate stress reduction of some kind. I.E. Breathwork, meditation, prayer, EFT Tapping, bubble bath by candlelight with soft music, get more sleep (go to bed earlier), listening to your favorite music instead of watching TV, etc.

If you have any questions about this article please contact me!

P.S. I personally would add using a microcurrent home device to stimulate cellular activity, collagen, elastin, tighten skin and diminish fine lines and wrinkles.

P.P.S. Please share this informative article with your friends and family! Merci!

Help! Winter Is Drying Out My Skin!!

December 13, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Winter is here (maybe not officially, but it is here) and we are all in need of skin care tips!

You know I have said a million and one times, and even posted on the Dr. Lucy website under "My Story" how my skin is so sensitive. If I don't stay on top of it during these Winter months my skin will become tight and dry very quickly from the dry air, cold climate and heaters that are blasting away. Here are some helpful tips for the love of your skin on keeping it nourished, calm, hydrated and glowing all Winter using the Dr. Lucy products.

Crème Cleanser: A kinder, gentler crème cleanser that hydrates, rather than intensely exfoliates, since skin irritation can increase along with dryness in colder weather. Dr. Lucy's Gentle Crème Cleanser with Atlantic Sea Kelp is the perfect choice for hydrating and balancing the skin, plus it deeply cleanses the pores.

Toner: An absolute must anytime of year for balancing, hydrating and allowing all your other products to work so much more effectively!

Serum: Start off any cold weather skincare routine with a natural serum that has a hydrating base. Serums containing botanical hyaluronic acid like Dr. Lucy's 2-in-1 Hydrating Serum work well in the Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.

Moisturizer: Thicker doesn’t mean better! We can assure you that heavier creams don't necessarily work better, and they may even clog your pores. When it comes to soothing dry flaky skin, it's actually the ingredients of a moisturizer that matters, and not how thick it is. Dr. Lucy's Ultra Moisturizer has the perfect combinations of natural ingredients to nourish, protect and hydrate all day in every kind of weather. One of our secrets in the Ultra Moisturizer is botanical hyaluronic acid. 33,000 feet up in the air or at sea level, you are always hydrated and dewy fresh!

Face Oil: Nourish, calm, protect with the Dr. Lucy original proprietary blend face oil. An exceptional ace oil like Dr. Lucy's can protect the skin's acid mantle. Face oil can also speed up the skin’s own healing process and help repair damage from external influences, like extreme temperatures, over-cleansing, low humidity, sickness and travel.

Hydrating Masque: A hydrating face masque, like the Dr. Lucy's Luscious Rose Equalizer Hydrating Masque with Atlantic Sea Kelp, is perfect for wintertime dryness because it helps to heal redness and inflammation while tightening pores, plumping skin and stimulating collagen for a more supple look and feel.

Have a wonderful and blessed holiday season.

To you and your beautiful skin,
Rebecca

What Has Happened To My Collagen?!

November 25, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

There's only so much you can do to slow the natural decline of collagen in your skin. Let's talk about what can help or harm this very important protein!

"The collagen in the skin is affected by age in various ways. The skin becomes thinner and drier, and develops sags and wrinkles due to the collagen and elastin becoming disconnected." Says, Dr. Jeffrey Spiegel, M.D. In his article: What is collagen and what happens to it when we age?

Dr. Spiegel also states:
1. Growth of new cells slow down dramatically.
2. Dull colored skin can occur as the dead cells do not shed as quickly.
3. Aging skin is more susceptible to the development of brown spots on the face and body.
4. Intrinsic aging (hereditary) Extrinsic aging (caused by tobacco and environmental factors).
5. Smoking-contains chemicals that stimulate collagen-destroying enzymes and slows down the cells which produce collagen by 40%.

Here Are a Few Answers To Some Very Important Collagen Questions...

Does Rubbing Your Face Produce Collagen?

Yes, a simple massage can both strengthen muscle memory and spur collagen production. Gently massaging your facial muscles daily can also boost blood circulation, making the skin look refreshed and more youthful.

Does Coffee Affect Collagen?

Caffeine suppresses collagen production by preventing cell growth and interfering with the development of cartilage. In turn, this affects the ability to make new collagen and the genes involved in maturing cartilage cells. One study found that caffeine reduces collagen synthesis in human skin.

What Causes Rapid Collagen Loss?

The collagen tissues support the formation of bones, tendons and cartilage that form depending on the level of mineralization. However, an individual can lose collagen components in the body due to exposure to ultraviolet light, tobacco, excessive intake of sugar, and aging.

Here Are Just 13 Foods That Protect and Increase Collagen Production?

1. Broth

2. Chicken

3. Fish and Shellfish

4. Egg Whites

5. Citrus Fruit

6. Berries

7. Tropical Fruit

8. Garlic

9. Leafy Greens

10. Beans

11. Cashews

12. Tomatoes

13. Bell Peppers

Take Always!

Help stabilize and reverse the signs of aging on the inside with foods that strengthen, increase and protect collagen. Why Your Skin Care Routine Should Include a Face Oil!

November 20, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Face oils are an elixir of different essential and plant-based oils specifically chosen to not clog pores. Your face produces a natural oil called sebum, and you may see it come out of your pores if you gently squeeze. That oil typically builds up on the nose, chin, and forehead. While some people may feel that they have an excess of oil, typically, oily skin is a sign that your skin is trying to overcompensate for a lack of hydration. That is where facial oil comes in.

If you’re uncertain as to whether or not you really need this product, this article will explain why your skincare routine should include face oil to help you decide if this method of moisturizing is right for you.

Face Oil Works With Any Skin Type!

Adding nourishing oil like jojoba and rosehip is great for all skin types. Whether your skin is mature, dry, oily, or blemish-prone, all skin needs oil to be healthy. Many people shy away from adding oil because they fear it will only cause more problems or will enhance their already oily skin. Nothing is further from the truth. Providing your skin with these oils will lessen overall oil production.

Face Oil Locks in Hydration...

Ideally, face oil is the very last step in your skincare routine. Oil should go on after you’ve cleansed, toned, applied any serums, and moisturized your face. This is because face oil is thick and can penetrate through moisturizers and serums. However, if you’re doing this step during the day, always apply your SPF after your face oil, as it should always be your very last step. You can also apply face oil one to two times a day, depending on your skin care needs.

Face Oil Can Help Distressed Skin

Face oil contains essential fats that are good for the epidermis. Your skin needs these fats to help fill in the gaps between cells. Think of it as filling in cracks between concrete to make the surface smoother overall. Face oil will help you build a healthy skin barrier to give you healthier skin and a natural glow.

Everyone should include face oil in their skincare routine, especially if their overall skincare goal is to have healthy glowing skin.

Are You Making a Big Mistake When Applying Eye Cream?

November 4, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

I'm going to do a quick eye gel vs. eye cream based on my own personal studies which still in the long run is my opinion:). Then I'll let you decide which one you prefer, so let's dive in!

It's Been Said the Eyes Are the Window To the Soul.

Since the skin care market is saturated with every kind of eye cream or gel you can imagine, it's sometimes hard to know which kind to buy. You might even think that using your regular facial moisturizer on your eye area is sufficient. It hydrates your skin and it may even contain an anti-aging formula, so it should be enough for your eyes, too, right? Well, not exactly. Your facial moisturizer is meant for a different type of skin on your face. Facial moisturizers in general are way too thick and usually have too many different kinds of oils and humectants for this delicate eye area.

Eye Gel's vs. Eye Cream's...

Gel
Since the delicate eye area is one of the first spots to show signs of aging and stress, eye gel is a very important step in your skin care regime. It doesn't just help reduce puffiness and increase brightening, anti-aging, firming and tightening, but it can also moisturize and nourish your sensitive eye area to ensure your entire complexion is getting the best possible results.

A gel absorbs very quickly. But don’t be fooled into thinking this means they don’t hydrate the skin. In fact, they are a nutrient dense powerhouse for that sensitive eye skin. Gels can reverse prominent signs of aging and tiredness and can improve circulation in the area surrounding the eye.

Creams
Creams can definitely have the active ingredients your delicate eye area needs. BUT creams are heavier by nature and usually have extra added oils. These extra oils don't absorb into the delicate eye area like a gel would.

An eye cream can also weigh down the delicate under eye area, causing your skin to sag and makeup to slide and settle into any fine lines and wrinkles.

As you can see I personally prefer a gel over a cream for better absorption and deeper penetration of active ingredients. It's lighter weight consistency doesn't weigh down the undereye area, or cause your makeup to melt. Win, win and win!

P.S. When You Apply the Eye Gel or Cream...

Make sure you use gentle taps to avoid tugging on the skin. This goes for the entire area above and below the eye. And use your ring or pinkie finger to apply your eye product — they tend to be the weakest fingers, so they won’t pull on your skin as much.

To Your Beautiful Skin!

Help! My Eyes and Face Are Puffy in the Morning!

October 21, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

I wanted to share some great advice from Dr. Janet Zand, N.D. on Lymphatic drainage for the face!

You know how some mornings you wake up, look in the mirror, and whoa! Your face is so puffy!

Sometimes, you know what caused it. Maybe you ate too much salt the day before. Or you drank too much caffeine or alcohol, which are dehydrating. (Facial puffiness is essentially caused by water retention.)

Other times, the cause isn’t so clear. That’s because puffiness can also be caused by things like hormonal changes, stress, a lack of sleep, allergies, and even the weather!

But whatever the cause, there’s good news: There’s an easy way to quickly de-puff your face in the morning, and it only takes a couple of minutes.

Here’s how to do it...

Enjoy a face massage
Start with a quick massage that stimulates lymphatic drainage. Stimulating lymphatic drainage will get all the excess fluid to move toward the lymph nodes, where it can be carried away.

To do this, use a face roller that you keep stored in the fridge. (Cold temps constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling). As for what kind of face roller to use, you don’t need to spend a lot of money unless you just really want to.

Okay, so here’s what to do...

Start with clean skin. Give your face a splash with cold water -- ice-cold water is even better!

Then, apply your moisturizer and eye cream. Ideally you want to use an eye cream with active ingredients for reducing puffiness.

Next, get your roller (or spoon). You’re going to do one side of your face at a time.

• Start at the center of your chin, rolling out and up toward your ear. Do three strokes with light pressure.

• Now move the roller up to the side of your mouth and repeat, rolling out toward your ear three times again.

• Then start at the side of your nose and repeat the same motion.

• Roll it under your eye, moving it horizontally toward your temple, and repeat it on your eyelid.

• Move to your forehead, rolling it from your brow to your hairline.

• Now roll it horizontally out toward your temple.

Then you’ll repeat this massage on the other side of your face.

If you have more time and need more de-puffing, you can always add more cold therapy.

How? With an inexpensive gel-pack face mask. These masks are made specifically for the face, with openings for your eyes, nose, and mouth. (They’re also great for relieving sinus pain!) Put it in the freezer for 30 minutes, then put it on your face for 10-15 minutes.

Finally, make it your goal for the day to drink lots of water ... and to avoid salt, alcohol, and caffeine. That way, you’ll address the root cause of puffiness. And you’ll wake up to much better skin the next morning.

So try these tips out, and let me know how it goes!

To You and Your Beautiful Skin!
Rebecca

P.S. The green and white tea in the Dr. Lucy 2-in-1 Hydrating Serum is awesome for depuffing and brightening the skin!

Do You Know What Will Personally "TURN ME OFF" Faster Than a New York Minute?!...

October 14, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

Ok, but before you shoot the messenger, step back with me so I can explain why I will push this particular Dr. Lucy masque forever.

Look I get it 1000%! Adding Yet ANOTHER product to my ALREADY skin care regime... are you kidding me?!

Sorry, but NOW is the time to remove the summer's dry, dead skin cells. Plus, keep your skin nourished, hydrated and calm throughout the fall and winter months. Actually through every changing season for that matter. By the way, extra cold, wet and snowy is in the forecast across the U.S. this winter!:)

I have learned the hard way, not all skin care masques are created equal.

I have burned, dried out and rashed-up my skin just by trying out the new Holy Grail of skin care masques. They all promise to work wonders but in reality some are nothing more than toxic ingredients in a pretty container that disrupts the skins mantle.

A proper hydrating skin care masque is always highly underrated. What do I mean by this?

In a nutshell?! IT WILL IMPROVE YOUR SKIN! We think if it doesn't burn, dry, peel or just plain hurt it's not working. Actually it's the complete opposite! Skin is live tissue that needs to be kept in its proper little "ecosystem". When we constantly hurt our skin it could show right away or possibly permanently!

If you have followed Dr. Lucy from day one, then you know all I have ever talked about are top of the line, fresh, natural, potent enough ingredients and properly formulated products. With this said, each and everyone of the Dr. Lucy products have their own stand alone purpose and
this special nutrient dense masque plumps, calms, boosts collagen production, diminishes fine lines, wrinkles and promotes a denser more youthful, hydrated, glowing skin... again!

Repeat! Major Masque Benefits!

The Luscious Rose Equalizer Hydrating Masque will prep your skin, taking your skin care products to a whole new level, giving it a more beautiful, youthful look.

The Luscious Rose Equalizer Hydrating Mask helps to naturally and gently exfoliate, brighten, revitalize, aid in cell renewal, stimulates collagen production, aids in skin density (thicker, younger, plump skin) softens, deeply nourishes, soothes, calms and refines your skin.

Did I mention a proper hydrating masque like the Luscious Rose Equalizer Hydrating Masque will also help with sagging skin? Yes, that too! Boost That Collagen and Elastin!

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by incorporating this very special hydrating masque once, twice or three times a week into your skin care regime. Besides, who doesn't need a few minutes a week to stop, relax and reconnect with yourself.

P.S. The Luscious Rose Equalizer Hydrating Masque is so nourishing and gentle you could use it everyday if you like!

My "Monthly" and Menopause Story!

October 7, 2022 Rebecca Siegfried

What does this have to do with skincare? Read on and see...

I'm asked quite frequently about menopause and skin issues. Here is a review of my own personal story!

This October newsletter is a bit different from my usual newsletters in that I am going to share with you my transition from my "monthly" into menopause. Remember, skin care is just one part of the human body puzzle.

I was asked by my husband, if I would be willing to share an article in his clinic newsletter on how I went through menopause and what I did to help my symptoms and hormones, so of course I said yes!

My personal story on my “monthly”.

And how I mastered Menopause!

Maybe it will help you too!...

Some of you know me already and some of you do not, so let me introduce myself. My name is Rebecca Siegfried and yes, you guessed it, I am Dr. Siegfried’s wife! Just to give you my basic background, I have four beautiful children and nine grandchildren (wow that went fast!), I own my own natural skin care company called Dr. Lucy Pure Natural Skin Care (www.drlucy.net) and we sell exclusively in the US. I am also a retired microcurrent technician and a massage therapist.

Why am I telling you this?

I’m going to share my personal story of how I not only got through my “monthly”, (I honestly never used this word, but I will for the sake of the men reading this testimonial) and menopause with very few symptoms, but also how I kept all my female organs in the process even though the odds were stacked completely against me.

WARNING! Haha!

If this testimonial is too personal for you to read, you might want to stop right here. If you can handle it, then let’s get going!

Ok, let’s get started!

I could deal quite well with my periods, monthly, that time of the month, or whatever you want to call this “natural event” (be nice to yourself) in my 20’s and into the start of my 30’s. But when I got into my middle 30’s things started to change and not in a good way. That time of the month became harder and harder for me to deal with. The hormonal headaches were pretty bad, flow was way too heavy, feeling very off was a constant for about three to four days.
Once I got into my 40’s some of the months for about a week were just shear torture and I never knew how bad the symptoms would become. I can say without the Chiropractic care and certain supplements I think I would have been even worse off!
I knew by about age 45 I was heading straight on into menopause and needless to say, it was very daunting to say the least.

My Family History…

All the women in my family on both sides had had the “typical” hysterectomy’s whether they needed it or not, so this left me with no one to talk to about this very surreal time in my life…at least that is what I thought.

My Aunt (Dad’s sister) was visiting my parents at the time, so I went over to say hi. Auntie Joy (love her name) asked me how I was doing, and since I knew, I could talk to her about anything, I started telling her about my big “M” worries. Fortunately, she let me talk away!

Now I assumed Auntie Joy had never gone through menopause because of having a hysterectomy just like the rest of the women in my family. But I was so wrong! All of a sudden, she stopped me in mid-sentence to say, “Honey, I went through menopause and I have all my parts!” What a shock this was for me to hear! Then came my one hundred and one questions to her about her personal menopause process, questions like: Did you have hot flashes? Did you suffer the whole time with other problems and symptoms? How were your mood swings? Night sweats? Weight gain? And the list went on! She patiently listened to me. When I finally came up for air and asked her the million-dollar question: “What did you do or take to get through menopause?” She said: “Rebecca, I went to my doctor (medical doctor!) with some of these same questions and he said very simply, yet clearly, I want you to take WHEAT GERM OIL”.

What?! You’re kidding me, right? Only wheat germ oil? It can’t be this simple, it must have been more complicated than this?! I swear (actually, I don’t swear) she said wheat germ oil about ten times to me before it really sunk in.

I thought to myself, no way could this have been this simple…but it was. Her hot flashes stopped, flow balanced out and then stopped naturally, mood swings balanced back out, even her skin was glowing and beautiful (very French, very Irish, very German woman)!
You are probably wondering why doc didn’t tell me this about wheat germ oil and some other supplements. Well, it’s embarrassing for me to say, but he did. Sometimes you just need a woman in your own family telling you so that it really hits home.

What did I do and still do to this day?

I try to take wheat germ oil and other whole food supplements doc has recommended to me every single day (honestly, I do). I watch what I eat because it is all related to hormones and how you feel. I also exercise every day by at least walking or doing Pilates, light weights and stretching. The body needs to move so that it can flush out the toxins by squeezing the muscles and organs. Plus, oxygen for healing and youthfulness. Plus, I could not live without regular chiropractic care! No sales pitch here. I personally could not imagine life without organic food, the whole food supplements, exercise, and chiropractic care! Growing up in the country with lots of horses proved to me life without chiropractic would have been a much harder life to live!

Moral of the story?

I hope this little story will help any of you during your “monthly”, going into perimenopause, menopause or after you have gone through menopause. Or if you have had a hysterectomy or partial hysterectomy (YES, there is natural help for you too!).
Feed your body, feed your hormones for a happier and healthier life!
